Grants to scale ecosystem-based adaptation
Grants of up to USD 250,000 for organisations scaling ecosystem-based adaptation, with priority for work in ODA-eligible small island developing states and least developed countries.

Fund work that helps people adapt to climate impacts through ecosystems and removes practical barriers to bringing that approach into wider use. You can strengthen institutions or technical skills, produce evidence, build learning networks or prepare projects for larger investment. Applied research and tested technologies can qualify when they help these adaptation approaches reach wider use.
Projects may last up to 24 months. They must explain the climate risk, how ecosystems and people are vulnerable, and how the work will reduce that vulnerability while benefiting people and nature.
Eligibility
You can lead an application as an NGO, community-based organisation, Indigenous Peoples' organisation, university, research institute, think tank, eligible private company or another listed legal entity. Consortia must name one lead organisation. Government bodies may participate in a consortium but cannot receive grant money.
Your project must:
- use ecosystems to reduce people's vulnerability to identified climate impacts, qualifying as ecosystem-based adaptation;
- be innovative and show potential to change the wider conditions for this kind of adaptation, for example by influencing policy, closing capacity gaps, developing financing mechanisms or addressing governance barriers, rather than end as one standalone local intervention;
- build on existing work and involve local institutional or organisational partners;
- be global or thematic, or work only in countries eligible for official development assistance;
- use the application form to classify the project under no more than one “Strategic Objective” and two “Action Pillars”;
- show relevant local experience, financial capacity, long-term continuity, social inclusion and compliance with environmental and social safeguards.
This call primarily targets eligible small island developing states and least developed countries. Other eligible countries need an exceptionally ambitious case for scaling adaptation. Private-sector applicants cannot seek support for profit-making activity, sector obligations or compensatory measures.

Prepare the application form and project budget, the applicant declaration and the due-diligence and financial-capacity questionnaire. Add a co-applicant mandate if you apply as a consortium. Submit the package through the online platform during the application window.
