Energy feasibility study funding
Funding for industrial and large commercial customers to compare options for saving energy, switching from fossil fuels to electricity, or reducing peak electricity demand.
Denne finansieringsmuligheten er foreløpig beskrevet på engelsk.
An energy expert studies the options and costs for one or more systems at an existing site, an expansion or a new site. The study can assess energy-efficiency improvements, including power generation that offsets your own use, or efficient ways to replace fossil-fuel equipment with electric systems. It can also assess demand response: reducing or shifting electricity use at the specified times when demand on BC Hydro’s system is highest.
The funding covers 100% of the study for an energy opportunity above 200,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, or a total electricity-demand impact above 100 kilowatts (kW). It covers 50% for an energy opportunity from 25,000 to 200,000 kWh per year, or a total demand impact from 25 to 100 kW. Kilowatt-hours measure an amount of electricity over time; kilowatts measure power demand. These thresholds concern the opportunity being studied, rather than your company’s total electricity use.
The report compares your options, implementation costs and estimated savings or greenhouse-gas impacts, helping you decide which project to pursue.
Eligibility
- You must be an industrial or large commercial BC Hydro customer. Large commercial customers must use at least two gigawatt-hours (GWh), equivalent to two million kWh, of electricity each year across the company.
- For an energy-efficiency or low-carbon electrification study, the energy opportunity must be at least 25,000 kWh per year. For a demand-response study, the minimum demand impact is 25 kW.
- Your energy expert must belong to the Alliance of Energy Professionals. Work with the expert to define the study scope.

Contact your BC Hydro Key Account Manager or Regional Energy Manager to apply. If you do not know your manager, contact the business help desk at 1 866 522 4713 or incentives@bchydro.com.
Discuss the study and proposal requirements with your manager, a BC Hydro representative and your energy expert. The expert completes the final proposal, and your manager submits the application. Once BC Hydro approves it, the expert conducts the analysis under the agreed study scope and BC Hydro’s technical guidelines.
The expert provides a detailed report. You then attend a final presentation with the expert and a BC Hydro representative to discuss the findings and next steps; BC Hydro processes the study funding payment after that presentation.
