Aktion Wasserzeichen
Grants for property owners, occupiers and legal entities in Eppelborn to disconnect paved surfaces from the combined sewer or retain rainwater.
Denne finansieringsmuligheten er foreløpig beskrevet på engelsk.
Reduce local flood runoff by removing impermeable paving, letting clean rainwater soak into soil, storing it temporarily or diverting it separately to surface water.
AWZE pays €20 per square metre disconnected from the combined sewer for depaving, infiltration or separate discharge, or €40 per square metre connected to rainwater retention. Each measure is capped at €5,000 and its actual costs. Documented, approved work you carry out yourself can count at €15 per hour. This is a one-off grant paid after completion, required evidence, photographs and any acceptance inspection.
Eligibility
- The project must be in the municipality of Eppelborn and concern surfaces connected to a combined sewer, which carries both rainwater and wastewater. Private property owners and holders of hereditary building rights can apply. Tenants, leaseholders, housing companies and other legal persons need the property owner's agreement.
- For new buildings, only rainwater retention for infill development within the built-up settlement qualifies, and only where the work is not already legally required and local/AWZE bylaws permit it.
- At least 30 m² must be disconnected or connected to storage. If replacing paving with permeable paving, renew at least 50% of the existing surface. New paving must remain permeable at a minimum of 270 litres per second per hectare, supported by a manufacturer's certificate. Depaving requires a waste-disposal certificate under German waste law; conversion into stone or gravel gardens is excluded.
- Infiltration must take rainwater without harmful contamination through the living topsoil on your own property. Retention tanks, boxes, cisterns or green roofs need at least 30 litres of continuously available retention volume per square metre connected, additional to any volume used for other purposes. Outflow must be throttled to at most 1 litre per second into the combined sewer, or infiltrate on the property. Separate discharge to surface water must also use rainwater without harmful contamination.
- Do not start before approval. The same work cannot also receive support from another public programme, or fulfil a requirement already imposed by bylaws or development planning. A statutory development freeze or defects or deficiencies in the dwelling or outbuilding prevent funding. Follow applicable planning, building, water, soil, neighbour and heritage law and technical rules; obtain the necessary permits, notifications and municipal consent, including a discharge permit where required.
- Complete within 12 months of the approval notice and in all cases by 31 January 2029. Commit to maintaining the funded work for at least 12 years after completion. Awards depend on available budget and AWZE's discretion, with no legal entitlement. Breaching the rules or approval conditions, misusing funds or changing the approved work without consent can lead to revocation and recovery of money already paid.
