Community Grant
Grants for coordinator-led groups of Irish homes, community facilities, businesses and public buildings to complete energy-efficiency and renewable-energy upgrades.

Fund fabric, technology and control-system upgrades in existing buildings, and integrate renewable energy. Renewable systems generally need to form part of a broader retrofit. Solar PV cannot be a stand-alone measure unless self-consumption can be independently verified and the building has first received fabric upgrades.
A single project can receive up to €2 million. A coordinator can bundle several projects into an application of up to €5 million, and SEAI recommends a grant request of at least €100,000 because of the administration involved. The support rate depends on who legally owns the building.
Eligibility
Homeowners, landlords, approved housing bodies, community and nonprofit organisations, businesses, local authorities and other public bodies can take part. The usual model brings different types of buildings and partners into one community project, but coordinators may also submit aggregated home-only projects.
For homes, the building must date from before 1 January 2011 and reach Building Energy Rating B2 after the work. It must normally improve by at least 100 kWh/m² a year; this uplift requirement does not apply when a heat pump is installed.
Costs incurred before SEAI's formal grant approval, called the Letter of Offer, are ineligible. The scheme also excludes measures that have already received an SEAI grant at the same property, new buildings, domestic extensions and combined heat and power projects.

Choose a project coordinator from SEAI’s current list and discuss whether your building can join a suitable project. The coordinator prepares and submits the application; only a project coordinator can apply. Applications are accepted throughout the year in a competitive process, subject to the available budget. Do not start work before SEAI sends this formal grant approval.
