Feasibility studies and business cases
Historical co-funding for New Zealand businesses and public organisations to assess energy-efficiency or renewable-energy projects.
Denne finansieringsmuligheten er foreløpig beskrevet på engelsk.
EECA’s Direct Engagement programme for large energy users closed for 2025/26. Its historical support included feasibility studies.
The funding helped assess whether an energy-efficiency or renewable-energy project was viable. Examples included more efficient compressed-air systems in manufacturing, upgraded heating for commercial buildings or hospitals, and replacing fossil-fuel heat plant with renewable-fuel plant.
EECA could contribute up to 40% of the cost of a feasibility study or business case, capped at NZ$50,000. This was support for investigating the project.
Eligibility
Under the historical conditions:
- Applicants were large New Zealand-registered businesses or public organisations spending more than NZ$1.5 million a year on stationary energy: energy used in fixed locations.
- Applicants with lower energy spending could be considered if they were investigating new technologies or processes with high potential to be repeated elsewhere, or were using natural gas.
- The applicant had to own or manage the plant or building concerned and be committed to implementing the project.
- The study had to explore viable solutions before choosing the preferred option, with equally detailed, comparable costings for each solution. EECA assessed information quality and the likelihood of cost-effective energy savings or renewable-energy uptake.
- A consultant could prepare the application in the business owner’s or manager’s name. If used, the consultant had to be qualified and have no vested interest in the project’s equipment.
