Balcony solar grant
A €100 grant for Neuwied residents installing a new plug-in solar system at their own home or rented dwelling.

The grant supports a new small photovoltaic system that feeds electricity into your home through a suitable socket. Systems can be installed on balconies, flat roofs or terraces. The flat payment is available once per system, with at most one funded system per dwelling.
There is no entitlement to funding. Applications are processed in the order received, and approval depends on available funds. You cannot combine funding for the same system under this scheme or other funding programmes.
Eligibility
- You must live in Neuwied and be an individual who owns a self-occupied house or flat, or a tenant. Landlords and companies are excluded. In a building with several dwellings, each tenant can apply for their own dwelling. Tenants need their landlord’s consent.
- The system must be new, properly installed and connected, and comply with applicable legal requirements and national and international standards, including CE requirements. Used systems, prototypes, self-built systems and pre-existing installations are excluded. Its invoice must be dated 12 July 2024 or later.
- You must register the system yourself in the Federal Network Agency’s Marktstammdatenregister. You must not claim EEG remuneration, the statutory payment for electricity generated by the funded system.
- You are responsible for checking the load-bearing capacity of the balcony or other building parts and the electrical installation requirements. Grant approval does not replace any required public-law or private-law approvals. For a listed historic building, provide proof of the required heritage permission.
- You must operate the funded system in Neuwied for five years. Selling it before this period ends can affect your grant. The city or its appointed representative may check use of the funding through a site visit.
False information or culpable breaches of the grant conditions can lead to full or partial withdrawal and repayment of money already paid, with interest from the due date at five percentage points above the base interest rate under section 247 of the German Civil Code.

Apply to the City of Neuwied using its digital application form after installation and registration. Applications are exclusively digital. Attach copies of the purchase receipt, registration confirmation and a photograph of the installed system. Tenants must also attach written landlord consent using the city’s provided form; for listed historic buildings, attach the heritage permission.
Submit a complete and correct application: incomplete or incorrect applications are not processed. The city checks your application; if approved, you receive a notice by post and the grant is paid. Applications can close early when funds run out.
