Smart Sense rebates
Rebates for cooperative members installing solar panels at their properties or making audit-recommended energy improvements to homes and farms.
Denne finansieringsmuligheten er foreløpig beskrevet på engelsk.
Price Electric Cooperative’s Smart Sense programme supports energy efficiency and renewable energy. These routes cover new solar electricity systems and improvements recommended by an approved home or farm energy audit.
The solar rebate is $500 per photovoltaic (PV) system, capped at the equipment cost. PV panels generate electricity from sunlight. The audit-improvement rebate pays the cost of eligible materials and professional labour up to $500; it does not cover the audit itself. Each member account can receive that improvement rebate only once every five years, regardless of the number of audits or measures.
After approval, the cooperative credits your electricity account; in some cases it sends a check instead.
Eligibility
You must be a cooperative member and the property must be on the cooperative’s lines. The solar form covers residential, farm, commercial, industrial and institutional/government installations. The audit-improvement route is limited to homes and farms.
For solar electricity systems:
- Install new equipment through a qualified contractor. Both the panels and inverter must be installed. Resale equipment, new parts fitted to existing equipment, rebuilt or rented equipment, and equipment received through insurance, a warranty or a prize do not qualify.
- Panels must face within 90 degrees of due south, tilt 10–50 degrees from horizontal, and have no more than 10% obstacle shading, measured using an industry-accepted tool. The system must have a warranty of at least five years.
For audit-recommended improvements:
- Use a comprehensive audit with a written report, arranged by the cooperative or a partner it approves. The report must recommend the improvements and show that the improvements reduce the use of electricity or delivered fossil fuels such as LP gas or oil, or improve their efficiency.
- Complete the improvements within 24 months of the audit. If another incentive is available for a recommended measure, that measure qualifies only for that other incentive, rather than the audit-improvement rebate.
Funds are limited, additional eligibility criteria may apply, and the programme can change or be cancelled without notice.

- Available until December 31, 2026 or earlier depletion of funds.
- Submit within three months of purchase and also within three months of solar installation or completion of audit improvements.
For audit improvements, first arrange the required audit through Price Electric Cooperative or an approved partner, then complete the recommended work. For solar, have the qualifying system installed by a qualified contractor.
Complete and sign the relevant rebate form. Attach receipts or invoices with purchase prices circled. For solar, include proof that the array is installed. For improvements, also circle the purchase/install date and include the audit documentation and proof of completed work with its completion date.
Submit within three months of purchase. The solar form also requires submission within three months of installation, and the improvements form within three months of completion. Meet both the purchase deadline and the applicable completion deadline, within the current 2026 intake. A solar application submitted after December 31 can only be considered for a 2027 incentive if one is offered.
Send the documents to Price Electric Cooperative, PO Box 110, Phillips, WI 54555, or email memberservices@priceelectric.coop. The cooperative checks eligibility and your submission deadline before processing the rebate.
