Rénoclimat
Grants for owners to improve insulation, seal air leaks and replace eligible doors, windows or heat-recovery equipment in Québec homes.
Denne finansieringsmuligheten er foreløpig beskrevet på engelsk.
The current application route uses Rénoclimat’s former criteria during its transition. Request your first energy evaluation by 12 October 2026; the evaluation after the work must be completed by 31 March 2027. The latter date is a completion deadline, not a deadline for new entrants.
The lifetime grant ceiling is CAD 20,000 per house or CAD 40,000 per duplex, triplex or multi-unit residential building. Payments depend on the measures completed, rather than a percentage of your renovation bill.
Insulation payments depend on the change in R-value, a measure of resistance to heat flow, and the area insulated. Your initial report records the existing insulation and recommended improvement.
- Roof: attic insulation must reach at least R-50 for every payment tier. For the whole roof, starting at R-12 or less earns CAD 1,500; starting above R-12 through R-25 earns CAD 750, and above R-25 through R-35 earns CAD 250. A cathedral or flat roof must reach R-28: CAD 1,500 from R-12 or less, or CAD 500 from above R-12 through R-25. Amounts are prorated for the area and roof types; the table gives 20% area payments of CAD 300/150/50 for attics and CAD 300/100 for cathedral or flat roofs.
- Exterior walls: adding more than R-9 earns CAD 3,750 for the whole eligible area; adding R-3.8 through R-9 earns CAD 2,250. At 20% area, these are CAD 750 and CAD 450. Wall and basement/crawl-space wall grants are reduced to 75% for semi-detached houses and end-unit row houses, and 50% for interior row houses.
- Foundations: adding more than R-23 to crawl-space walls, including the rim joist, earns CAD 2,000 for the whole area; adding R-10 through R-23 earns CAD 1,000. Basement wall equivalents are CAD 2,500 and CAD 1,250. At 20% area these amounts are CAD 400/200 and CAD 500/250. Basement and crawl-space areas are prorated when both exist. Insulating the entire floor above a crawl space by more than R-23 earns CAD 500. A basement rim joist needs at least R-20 added and at least 80% coverage: CAD 200 at 80% or CAD 250 at 100%.
- Exposed floors above an unheated space or outdoors: add at least R-20 across the whole eligible floor, covering at least 14 m², for CAD 380. Floors over crawl spaces use the foundation rule instead.
- Air sealing: the evaluator measures air leakage and sets a target in your report. Meeting it earns CAD 400; exceeding the target by 10% earns CAD 600, or by 20% earns CAD 800.
- Doors and windows: CAD 150 per existing opening in a wall or roof, including the frame. The products, including a door’s sidelights or transoms, must be ENERGY STAR certified. Keep labels and a detailed invoice so the evaluator can verify the models in the Canadian certified-product list. Replacing glass, a sash or a door without its frame does not qualify; several windows in one opening receive one payment.
- Heat- or energy-recovery ventilation: CAD 500 per qualifying unit listed in section 3 of the Home Ventilating Institute directory. Air ducts should be inside the insulated space; an unavoidable attic installation requires validation by the evaluator. Ventilation alone can increase energy use, so the project must still improve the overall energy rating.
- Drain-water heat recovery, which recovers heat from water leaving a shower: CAD 120 for efficiency from 30% to below 42%, or CAD 180 at 42% or above.
For multi-unit buildings, insulation payments use multipliers of 1.8 for 2–3 units, 3 for 4–6, 5 for 7–9, 6 for 10–12, 7 for 13–16, and 8 for 17 or more. Door/window payments remain per opening and mechanical-system payments per installed unit, with at most one device per dwelling. Air-sealing payments follow the building’s measured target.
Eligibility
You must be the legal owner or an authorized representative of co-owners. Individuals and legal entities can participate, including companies, farms, condominium syndicates, housing cooperatives, nonprofits, trusts and First Nations/band or tribal councils with necessary adaptations. You may apply for a dwelling you do not occupy, and separately for each eligible property.
- The dwelling must be in Québec: a house, duplex, triplex or multi-unit residential building with at most 100 units. The whole building is evaluated; individual condominium units cannot apply separately, and the syndicate receives the grant.
- It must have at most three above-ground storeys and a footprint no larger than 600 m², permanent foundations, and have been built and habitable for at least 12 months. More than 50% of its total floor area, including the basement, must be residential. Commercial uses requiring specialized equipment make the building ineligible even below 50% commercial area.
- Year-round habitability requires working heating able to maintain 21°C, electricity throughout, drinking water and a municipal or private wastewater outlet.
- The evaluator must be able to assess the building and perform the blower-door test, which measures air leakage. Certain configurations or excessive leakage can make it ineligible. Where hazardous interior materials make the test unsafe or inadvisable, an evaluation without the test is possible with an owner-signed waiver.
- Remain owner from the first through the final evaluation. If an owner dies, the estate can continue with supporting legal documents; liquidation or sale outside the immediate family before the final evaluation loses access to the grant.
- Start eligible work only after the first evaluation and complete it before the second. The final EnerGuide rating must show lower energy consumption. Measures already funded must produce additional improvement to qualify again. The same work cannot also receive funding from another programme of the Québec environment ministry.
Heat pumps, geothermal heating and air conditioners, additions, roof/wall coverings, electrical panels, electronic thermostats and garage doors/windows do not qualify under this route. Work outside the assessed heated space is excluded. A house extension is excluded from the grant calculation.
The framework also excludes applicants in litigation with Transition énergétique Québec (TEQ), those who have defaulted on obligations to TEQ, and businesses listed in Québec’s register of enterprises ineligible for public contracts. Energy-distributor grants can be combined, but combined assistance must not exceed 80% of the cost of the work.

- Deadline to request the first evaluation before starting work.
- The evaluation after work must be completed by 31 March 2027; this later date does not extend entry for new applicants.
- This window uses the former criteria and grant amounts.
Call Rénoclimat customer service at 1 866 266-0008 to request the evaluation before work within the entry window. An authorized evaluator confirms building eligibility and assesses its energy use. This first visit costs CAD 150 plus tax; CAD 150 is refunded if an eligible grant is paid. The evaluation after work is free. Cancellation less than 24 hours ahead may cost CAD 25, and an unsuccessful visit may incur CAD 75 in travel charges.
Use the evaluation report to plan qualifying work and check its technical targets. Québec law requires certified contractors for certain work; you may do other work yourself where the law allows. Keep invoices, photos and product labels until the grant is paid, and provide them to the evaluator.
Once the work is finished, request and complete the final evaluation by 31 March 2027. The programme checks eligibility and the improved energy rating before paying. To receive payment, the principal owner must call customer service to provide their social insurance number or Québec business number.
Pay evaluation fees within 30 days of the visit to remain eligible. Retain invoices for 12 months after receiving the grant, in addition to keeping work evidence available during assessment. Overpayments caused by a calculation error or failure to meet eligibility must be repaid within 30 days of the request; false declarations can require full or partial repayment.
