Building insulation grants

Canton SolothurnSveits1k CHF og oppover

Grants for owners insulating existing buildings in Canton Solothurn, with an additional bonus for extensive roof and façade insulation.

Denne finansieringsmuligheten er foreløpig beskrevet på engelsk.

Insulate roofs, external walls and ground-facing floors to reduce heat loss. The grant is CHF 40 per m² of newly insulated eligible area. An additional CHF 40 per m² is available if at least 90% of eligible façade and roof surfaces meet the insulation requirements. Ground-facing walls and floors are excluded from the bonus calculation; use the building’s surfaces before renovation, subtracting areas covered by extensions or added storeys.

Grants below CHF 1,000 are excluded. Support covers at most 50% of the investment. Your own labour does not count as an investment; for work you do yourself, only material costs may be covered. From CHF 100,000 the canton decides the contribution individually; from CHF 50,000 you must supply an economic calculation. Contributions for each measure are added when assessing these thresholds and the energy-analysis requirement.

Payment goes to the owner after completion and submission of all required documents, normally within six weeks. There is no entitlement to funding, and even an award depends on sufficient approved funds being available at payment.

Eligibility

  • You must own a building in Canton Solothurn built before 2000 and insulate at least 25 m² per application. Eligible components face outside air or the ground: roofs, walls and floors that were initially heated, plus these external components in existing unheated first attic or basement storeys. Interior attic floors and basement ceilings, extensions and added storeys are excluded.
  • The post-renovation U-value, which measures heat passing through a component, must be at most 0.20 W/m²K, or 0.25 W/m²K for components buried more than two metres deep. Improve the U-value by at least 0.07 W/m²K. Protected buildings or components may receive concessions with proof that the required values cannot be achieved.
  • Municipal buildings qualify. Institutions supported through a cantonal block grant can qualify when the government or parliament cannot directly influence them. Cantonal buildings directly controlled through credit allocations and federal buildings are excluded. Companies qualify except at sites exempt from the CO₂ levy or where the Confederation owns more than 50% of the capital.
  • From CHF 10,000 in building-insulation support per building, provide GEAK Plus or a building analysis with recommendations. GEAK Plus combines an assessment of the building’s energy use with possible improvements and is prepared by a certified GEAK expert. An existing GEAK Plus is sufficient if its GEAK remains valid; changes to the building during the GEAK’s ten-year validity require an updated certificate and advisory report.
  • Obtain all necessary permits separately. Allow the energy office access to grant-related records and the building for checks. All credited CO₂ savings transfer to the canton: double funding or counting, splitting those savings with third parties, and selling CO₂ certificates are prohibited.
  • Grants may be recovered if a building is abandoned or its purpose changed within ten years, if support was paid without justification, or if conditions are breached. Tax authorities may be informed of payments; tax deductions cover only costs you bear yourself.

How to apply

Løpende søknader
Vilkår for søknadsrunden
  • Apply before construction and wait for receipt confirmation. Awards depend on available approved funds at payout.

Use the official programme instructions to enter your application in the Gebäudeprogramm portal for Solothurn, yourself or through an authorised representative. Upload the attachments, print and sign the generated form, and immediately post it to the Energiefachstelle. Online entry alone is insufficient. The complete application must reach the office before work starts; do not start until receipt has been confirmed. The office recommends waiting for the grant decision. Representatives need a legally valid power of attorney signed by both parties.

Provide dated photographs, dimensioned plans or photos, and area and U-value calculations identifying existing and new materials. Add the required energy analysis and economic calculation when the thresholds apply.

Complete the project and submit the signed completion form and required documents within two years of the award. Generate the form in the portal, upload attachments, have the building owner sign it and post the signed form before expiry. Include dated photographs of completed components and a detailed final invoice, or a lump-sum invoice with its associated quotation. A justified extension request must be submitted before expiry.

Notify the energy office before carrying out changes to the approved project. Support is reduced to reflect the work actually carried out; increases are limited to 10%. Further measures can be submitted as a new application after the current grant is paid.
