Renewable home-heating grant
Owners and tenants of homes in Vienna can receive a grant to install district heating, an efficient heat pump or biomass heating.
Denne finansieringsmuligheten er foreløpig beskrevet på engelsk.
The grant supports central district-heating connections, first-time installation of efficient apartment heating, and conversion or upgrading of existing systems for heating and hot water.
For apartments, the one-off grant covers 35% of accepted costs, with a heating-only eligible-cost ceiling of €15,000 and a grant ceiling of €5,250.
For houses and allotment homes, the grant covers 35% of evidenced reasonable costs, up to €8,000. An additional €4,000 may be available for systems using geothermal energy, groundwater or waste heat. Payment depends on available city funds; there is no legal entitlement.
Eligibility
- The property must be in Vienna and be your principal residence. Apartment owners and tenants, and house or terraced-house owners and tenants, can apply.
- You must meet the “eligible person” rules: you must intend to use only this home regularly to meet your own housing need (“urgent housing need”), and meet the applicable household-income limits. For energy renovation and efficient alternative heating in houses and allotment homes, annual household income must not exceed €54,710 for one person, €81,540 for two, €92,260 for three or €103,000 for four, plus €6,010 for each additional person. Household income is the combined net income of everyone living together.
- Remove the existing heating system; the new efficient system must be the sole heating source.
- Heat pumps must appear in the GET product database. The water supplied to the wall or underfloor heating must normally be no hotter than 40°C. Higher temperatures are allowed with equivalent efficiency evidence: the selected system must show seasonal space-heating efficiency (ETAs) of at least 140% at 55°C in that database. Hot-water production must be as efficient as possible without impairing heating.
- Your own labour, lump-sum charges and material-only costs are excluded.

- Payment is subject to available city budget; invoices may be no more than six months old when applying.
Apply to the City of Vienna’s MA 50 using the official page’s apartment-improvement form or house-renovation form. You can also send the application and documents to wv@ma50.wien.gv.at. Supply a quote or invoice from an authorised contractor, ownership evidence or landlord consent, and current household-income evidence for houses, allotment homes and terraced houses. Municipal tenants need Wiener Wohnen’s consent. If using the federal “Raus aus Öl und Gas” support, include its award letter.
Invoices must be in the applicant’s name and dated no more than six months before applying. Meet any document deadline set by the funding office.
For apartment improvements, MA 50 advises waiting for the written grant assurance before placing orders or signing contracts. After completion, submit final accounts; MA 25 checks the work and invoices against the quotes before MA 50 settles the grant. Only work and supplies invoiced by authorised businesses count. Report the closure of an oil-heating installation to the building authority.
