Apartment-building solar grant
A grant for owners of Danish apartment buildings to install rooftop solar panels, with optional support for an existing advice report.
Denne finansieringsmuligheten er foreløpig beskrevet på engelsk.
Install a rooftop solar system of at least 15 kW on an apartment building. The grant pays DKK 4,000 per kW, or DKK 3,200 per kW where a VAT-registered business operates at the address. A private applicant who does not deduct VAT on materials and work can declare this in the application; a representative uses the applicant declaration.
You can also receive DKK 20,000 for an advice report, or DKK 16,000 at the VAT-registered rate. You must apply for it together with the solar installation. The report must already be completed, be no more than 24 months old, concern the same building, and have been prepared and invoiced by a business. The combined grant cannot exceed DKK 1 million per application.
You pay the project costs first. The Danish Energy Agency pays the grant after the system has been installed, paid for and connected to the public electricity grid, and your payment request has been approved.
Eligibility
- You must own the building or apply with authorization for its owner. Owners resident outside Denmark can apply for a building they own in Denmark. If ownership is not yet registered, provide the supporting purchase or legal documents specified in the manual. Eligible owners include individuals, housing and owner associations, cooperatives, businesses and self-owning institutions.
- The building must be principally used for year-round housing and recorded with BBR use code 140 or 150 in Denmark's building register. A dormitory must have units separated horizontally, on different floors. For a building with several homes, submit one joint application for one system, either as owner of the whole building or with authorization under the association's signing rules. There must not already be solar panels on the building.
- Use a business to install the system, and connect it to the public electricity grid.
- Wait for the grant commitment before ordering materials, accepting a binding offer, starting work or paying for installation. You may obtain installer quotations, municipal permits and the advice report beforehand.
- If you log in with a CVR business number, or there is business or other economic activity at the address, submit a de minimis declaration. This covers activity such as renting out all or part of the building, even without a registered business. The declaration checks the EUR 300,000 limit on this category of public aid over the preceding three years. An association's or company's authorized signatories must sign when a representative applies.
- Do not combine the project with other public grants or deductions. If another public scheme has funded the advice report, this scheme cannot fund that report again, but the solar installation may still qualify.
- If you raise rent in a privately rented property because of the improvement, deduct the grant from the improvement cost before calculating the increase and inform the tenants.
- As electricity producer, you must not directly receive guarantees of origin for the system's electricity. These are electronic certificates documenting renewable electricity production.

- Applications are open and processed first come, first served. New applicants are no longer admitted once the available budget has been requested.
Apply to the Danish Energy Agency through its application portal using MitID. The fund is open; qualifying applications are handled first come, first served, and the portal stops admitting new applicants once the budget has been requested in full.
If applying for someone else, attach the authorization, applicant declaration and ownership evidence, plus the relevant de minimis declaration. Associations also need evidence of their authorized signatories and signing rules. An employee applying for an employer needs authority through MitID Erhverv or a separate employment authorization. Applicants who cannot use the portal, including those without MitID or exempt from digital post, can contact spe@ens.dk with a telephone number for assistance.
After receiving the commitment, complete, pay for and connect the system, then request payment through the portal within three years of the commitment and before it expires. Submit all invoices and proof of payment, including for the report if funded, and the system's GSRN grid identifier, available from your network operator. Grants of DKK 500,000 or more require an auditor's declaration. Payment goes to the building owner's NemKonto.
A representative requesting payment for a company or association must include the management declaration. It confirms that costs have been paid and credits, discounts and receipts from selling replaced parts have been deducted from the project. Follow any reporting, extra evidence, deadlines and evaluation duties in your commitment. Requests to cancel, transfer or extend the commitment go through the portal and require the Agency's decision.
