GoGreen Home Energy Loan

USC Credit UnionCaliforniainntil 50k USD

An unsecured loan for California homeowners and renters who qualify for credit union membership, funding home energy upgrades and solar with battery storage.

Denne finansieringsmuligheten er foreløpig beskrevet på engelsk.

Borrow for home energy improvements such as heat pumps, eligible solar and battery installations, insulation and windows. Standard loans cover up to $50,000 with repayment terms up to 15 years. Solar-plus-battery projects can borrow up to $75,000 over up to 20 years. You repay USC Credit Union through loan payments; the credit union pays your contractor directly in a single payment when the project is complete. This is an unsecured loan, with no property or UCC-1 financing-statement lien, no down payment, no closing costs and no early repayment penalty.

Use at least 70% of the loan for eligible measures and related costs; up to 30% can cover other home improvements. The published annual percentage rates (APRs) are starting rates, not guaranteed rates or maximum rates: 3.24% for 1–2 years, 3.74% for 2–3 years, 4.24% for 4–5 years, 5.24% for 6–10 years, 6.24% for 11–15 years and 7.49% for 16–20 years. For loans qualifying under GoGreen Home, the programme caps the interest rate at the rate on new 10-year US Treasury bonds plus 7.5 percentage points: for example, a 3% Treasury rate gives a 10.5% ceiling. Rates were effective on 10 October 2026; your final rate depends on credit assessment, term and project eligibility and can change before approval.

The advertised 3.24% APR includes a 0.25 percentage point discount for automatic payments from a qualifying active USC Credit Union checking account and requires at least 70% of project costs to be GoGreen-eligible measures. Additional 0.125 percentage point discounts are available for verified renters, applicants whose home address and project location qualify as a Low-Income and Disadvantaged Community, and projects in a California Climate Investments Priority Population area. A renter must not be a homeowner and must provide a current lease or rental agreement. USC Credit Union verifies project and location eligibility. Projects that do not qualify for GoGreen face a 1 percentage point APR increase.

A separate promotion covers up to $30,000 in total project costs at 0% interest for terms up to 10 years, or 2% for terms between 10 and 15 years. Your property must be in a Priority Populations area shown with solid or hatched colour on the California Climate Investments map. Annual application income must be no more than $150,000, or someone in the household must be enrolled in HEEHRA, CARE, MediCal/Medicaid, SSI, WIC, CalFRESH/SNAP or LIHEAP. Use a participating GoGreen contractor. Unless the loan is under $5,000, include a heat pump, mini-split heat pump heating/cooling system or heat-pump water heater, installed by a participating contractor offering that work.

Eligibility

  • You must qualify for USC Credit Union membership. Routes include being a current USC employee, faculty or staff member, enrolled student or alumnus; living, regularly working or attending school in Los Angeles or Orange County; operating a business or other legal entity there; or being an employee or student of Woodbury University or AltaMed. A member’s immediate family and household members, including domestic partners, can also qualify. Immediate family includes spouses, children, siblings, parents, grandparents, grandchildren, step relationships and adopted relationships. Household membership means living at the same address and participating in maintaining one economic household. A domestic partner must be able to demonstrate the relationship with reasonable evidence, such as shared ownership or debt. Membership fees may apply.
  • The California property must be a single-family home, townhome, condo, duplex, triplex, fourplex or manufactured home. Both homeowners and renters can apply. All upgrades under this lender’s offer must be completed by a contractor in California’s GoGreen network.
  • Choose measures that meet the official GoGreen specifications. A heat pump must be a split system with separate indoor and outdoor units, or a packaged system that combines them in one unit. A mini-split heat pump must have a cooling-efficiency rating of at least 18 SEER. A heat-pump water heater must be ENERGY STAR certified. Insulation must meet the standards for the property’s climate zone; windows and glass doors must be installed in spaces that are heated or cooled. New solar panels and batteries must be installed together, using eligible modules and inverters. Battery storage added to an existing solar system must be an eligible energy storage system. Replacement solar panels do not qualify.
  • Customers whose only utility provider is PacifiCorp or Liberty Utilities cannot use GoGreen. Convection electric ovens and electric tankless water heaters require electricity service from City of Palo Alto Utilities, PG&E, Southern California Edison or San Diego Gas & Electric. The equipment list restricts central air conditioning, cool roofs, ECM furnace fans, evaporative cooling, fan or motor controls, and mini-split ductless air conditioning to PG&E, Southern California Edison or San Diego Gas & Electric. Check the official measure list for each product’s further requirements.
  • If you receive electricity from PG&E, Southern California Edison or San Diego Gas & Electric, but gas from City of Coalinga, City of Long Beach Gas & Oil, City of Vernon, Liberty Utilities, PacifiCorp, Southwest Gas, propane or another non-utility source, gas measures and other improvements unrelated to eligible energy measures together cannot exceed 30% of your loan.
  • Projects must follow local permitting requirements. Project paperwork is reviewed for compliance, and some properties may be inspected within 180 days of loan enrolment.

Check your membership route, choose a GoGreen-network contractor and apply through USC Credit Union’s GoGreen loan application. The lender assesses your credit and project eligibility. A valid purchase order or contractor invoice is required to verify the project before the loan is funded.
