Climate adaptation grant
Grants for Memmingen residents who own or rent homes to remove sealed surfaces, green roofs or facades, or collect rainwater.
Deze mogelijkheid is momenteel in het Engels beschikbaar.
The grant helps reduce summer heat and improve rainwater infiltration around homes in Memmingen.
Removing paving receives €20 per square metre, up to €1,000. Facade greening receives 50% of the measure’s costs, up to €500; green roofs receive 50%, up to €1,000. For rainwater retention, the grant covers 50% of eligible costs, up to €150 for storage of up to 500 litres or €300 for more than 500 litres. Direct planning, material and installation costs are eligible for roof and facade greening. The grant does not need repaying if you meet the rules and obligations.
The city may reclaim funding if the work breaches the funding rules, city bylaws or the development plan. You must allow on-site inspections. Depaving and roof or facade greening must be retained for at least ten years; the remaining obligation passes to the next owner or tenant. Owners also commit to maintaining the funded measure for ten years after completion.
Eligibility
You must live in Memmingen and own or rent a home there. Tenants need the owner’s consent. Owners with several homes or buildings may submit only one application for a dwelling or building.
- The work must be voluntary, beyond legal requirements. Wait for funding approval or permission for an early start before beginning work. Obtain any required permissions and comply with building, heritage and property rules.
- Depaving must disconnect the area completely from the sewer and allow all rainwater to soak into the ground on site. Permeable paved areas must have at least 50% vegetation. Suspected contaminated sites and polluted runoff are excluded; soil and groundwater must remain protected.
- Facade greening must be professionally planned and executed, cover at least five linear metres and use at least one perennial plant per 1.5 linear metres.
- Green roofs must be designed and built under the FLL green-roof guidelines. Installation must be carried out by a specialist business or comply with generally accepted technical practice.
- Rainwater systems must likewise be installed by specialists or comply with generally accepted technical practice. Only one cistern per property is eligible. Store the water cool and protected from light, and ensure lasting use and proper maintenance. PVC cisterns, water collected from zinc or copper roofs or bitumen-sealed surfaces, and automatic drinking-water top-ups into the cistern are excluded.
You must bear the investment costs: orders and invoices must be in your name and paid from your bank account. Other grants can generally be combined with this support, but you must check that their rules permit the combination.

- Voorwaarden voor deze aanvraagronde
- The 2026 budget is €4,000. Complete applications are processed in order of receipt; funding is discretionary and depends on available funds.[^c3][^c13][^c14]
Apply through the city’s digital 2026 form. The funding rules also provide an email route to klimaschutz@memmingen.de at the Amt für Umwelt und Klima. Submit a project description and sketch, a photo showing the proposed area’s location, a cost calculation or quote, and owner consent, heritage permission or authorization where applicable.
Wait for approval before placing orders or commissioning work. Complete the approved project and submit invoices, evidence and photos within twelve months. A justified written extension request must reach the city at least fourteen days before that period ends; missing the deadline removes your payment entitlement. Funding entitlement arises only after approval and successful checking of the completion evidence. Payment normally follows within two weeks of receiving invoices, evidence and photos.
Give complete and accurate information; missing or incorrect facts can lead to recovery of the grant. Applications refused because the budget is exhausted do not carry over into the next year.
