Green-roof installation grant

Municipality of UkkelBelgiado 500 EUR

A grant of up to €500 for installing an extensive or intensive green roof on a mainly residential property in Ukkel.

Ta możliwość jest obecnie dostępna po angielsku.

This entry covers extensive green roofs and intensive roof gardens. An extensive roof has a 5–10 cm growing layer, usually with sedum or moss, and is accessible only for maintenance. An intensive roof garden has grass, shrubs or trees and a growing layer at least 25 cm deep.

The municipality reimburses €200 for the first 10 m², then €10 for each additional m² of extensive roof or €15 for each additional m² of intensive roof, up to €500 in total. If you do all the work yourself, all grant amounts are halved, including the total ceiling. The award cannot exceed the actual eligible investment. You may combine it with other aid, but total aid cannot exceed the cost of the works. Declare other aid for the same project, including amounts already requested and the investments concerned; the municipality may check payment of that aid before paying its grant.

Awards depend on the municipal budget available for the scheme.

Eligibility

  • You must be the natural or legal person who made the investment. You may apply as an occupying owner or co-owner, a holder of a real property right (such as a right to use and benefit from the property, or a right to build on it), or a tenant holding a lease or emphyteutic agreement (a long-term property-use agreement). The property must be mainly used for housing in Ukkel. A tenant needs the owner’s permission for the works.
  • This single-property route permits one grant per mainly residential property. The green-roof area must total at least 10 m²; count roofs on the main building and its attached or detached ancillary buildings together. Green roofs over underground spaces and on pergolas are excluded.
  • Check whether planning permission is required, including for stability or changes to walls. If required, you must have taken all necessary application steps. A pending permit suspends the grant assessment, and a refused permit prevents an award.
  • The roof must not undermine roof stability. It must be built properly to remain watertight, including rainwater drainage connections. Its slope must be between 0° and 60°, and the installation must prevent organic material falling into lower public or private spaces in any weather.
  • Maintain the green roof for at least five years. For five years, allow municipal site inspections and supply requested documents showing that the installation works properly. If you transfer your property right during the first five years, require the successor to fulfil these duties. False or fraudulent declarations made to obtain the grant improperly, or failure to meet these duties, require repayment of the entire grant.

How to apply

Warunki naboru
  • Submit within six months of the date on the final works or materials invoice. Awards are subject to municipal budget availability.[^c8][^c4]

Complete and sign the municipal green-roof claim form after the works. Submit it within six months of the date on the final invoice for the works or material purchases. Send it by registered post to Municipality of Ukkel, Environment Department, Stallestraat 77, 1180 Brussels; deliver it against a receipt; or email it as a PDF to energieloket@ukkel.brussels. The energy desk can also be reached on 02/605.13.56.

Attach area plans, all material or installation invoices, bank statements proving payment, photographs of the roof and its technical elements, and a contractor’s signed and stamped certificate. Fill in that certificate yourself if you did the work yourself. A tenant must attach the owner’s permission. An unitemised progress-payment statement alone is insufficient proof. The bank-account holder must be the invoice addressee. The municipality may request proof of ownership or your real property right if it does not already hold the information.

A complete-file receipt states the award and payment period. If the municipality emails you about missing documents, supply them within two months of that email or the application becomes void. If a required permit has not been pursued, the application is void; a pending permit pauses assessment until the municipal decision.
