Climate grants

Municipality of LaakdalFlandria

Grants for homeowners, apartment co-owner associations and resident tenants to install green or rainwater-retaining roofs in Laakdal.

Ta możliwość jest obecnie dostępna po angielsku.

The municipal climate grants under the 2026 Natuurlijk Wonen regulation can help you install a roof that holds rainwater instead of sending it straight into drains. An extensive green roof has low-growing succulents, mosses and herbs; an intensive roof can have grasses, shrubs or trees. A retention roof temporarily stores rainwater and releases it slowly.

For the roof route, the grant is €25/m² for an extensive green roof, up to €500; €35/m² for a retention roof, up to €700; or €50/m² for an intensive green roof, up to €1,000 per application. Install at least 5 m²; no more than 20 m² receives support. The payment cannot exceed your actual installation cost including VAT.

Laakdal pays the approved grant into a bank account in your own name after the municipal executive approves it. Awards and payments follow chronological order within allocated municipal funds. Applications that cannot be funded because that year's credits are exhausted automatically carry forward to the next budget year.

Eligibility

  • You can apply as a private homeowner, an apartment co-owner association whose applicant makes a declaration on honour that they legally represent it, or a tenant living in the home with written permission from the owner or holder of the property rights. The project must be in Laakdal, regardless of your domicile address.
  • The home must have a building permit. The works and any garage or garden shed involved must comply with applicable permits, laws and regulations, including the applicable Code of Good Practice. Works required by a building permit or higher-level building rules do not qualify. Artificial vegetation does not qualify. You may claim only once per component or surface at each address.
  • A green roof must have, from bottom to top, a root-resistant layer, drainage layer, growing substrate and vegetation over the whole installed surface. A sloping green roof does not need the drainage layer. A retention roof must have a capillary bridge, water-retention layer, growing substrate and vegetation in that order over the whole installed surface.
  • Provide a water buffer beneath the plants of at least 25 litres/m² for an extensive green roof, 50 litres/m² for an intensive roof or 70 litres/m² for a retention roof. At least 80% of the roof element must be vegetated; gravel borders and rooflights may occupy no more than 20%.
  • You are responsible for the building's condition and the structure's load-bearing capacity. Solar panels are allowed only if they cover less than half the roof's horizontal projection.
  • Repair failed planting and keep the roof in good condition for at least ten years. Use the grant for its approved purpose and allow municipal access to the installation and relevant documents for checks until two years after the application date. Breaching the rules or providing false or incomplete information can lead to partial or full recovery, stopped payment or exclusion from future support under this regulation.

  • For works performed from 2026; apply after completion within one year of the last invoice.
  • Awards and payments follow chronological order within allocated credits; requests affected by exhausted annual credits carry forward automatically to the next budget year.

Apply after completing the works, within one year of the last invoice date, using Laakdal's green/retention-roof claim form. The municipal page invites applications for works performed from 2026.

Include detailed invoices or receipts describing the purchases or work; the live roof form requires material-purchase invoices no more than one year old, which also satisfies the regulation’s general two-year document limit. All invoices and quotations must show your name and the work address. If one invoice covers several adaptations, include the detailed quotation. Add permit references where a permit is required, a complete technical roof description and plant list, a dimensioned plan or sketch, and photographs before and after the work.

If you cannot submit digitally, arrange an appointment with Laakdal's Climate and Energy service on 013 67 01 10 or at omgeving@laakdal.be. Municipal services can request further information or a site visit before the municipal executive decides your application.
