Household rooftop solar grant

Development Bank of MauritiusMauritiusdo 75 tys. MUR

A grant covering 25% of rooftop solar acquisition costs, up to Rs 75,000, for eligible households in Mauritius with net monthly income of up to Rs 150,000.

Ta możliwość jest obecnie dostępna po angielsku.

The grant supports a rooftop solar photovoltaic system, which generates electricity from sunlight, installed and commissioned at your household’s principal residence under the CEB household solar scheme. Buy from a company incorporated locally that can legally contract to supply and install the system.

After assessing eligibility, the Development Bank of Mauritius (DBM) issues a coupon to use towards the purchase. It covers 25% of the system’s acquisition cost, capped at Rs 75,000. You pay the remaining acquisition cost and DBM’s Rs 1,000 processing fee.

You also bear applicable CEB connection, metering and other electricity-service charges. You remain responsible for operating and maintaining the system in line with the grid code and installer’s procedures. CEB must have free access to the system’s output data, required software and, following notice, the installation itself.

Eligibility

  • You must be a Mauritian citizen aged 18 or above. Your and your spouse’s combined net monthly income, where applicable, must not exceed Rs 150,000.
  • The residence must have an active CEB account in its Residential (Domestic) customer category.
  • You or your spouse must be both the registered owner and official CEB customer of the residence. Alternatively, the registered owner’s child may apply if they live there and have the owner’s written permission to install the system. If the electricity account is in another person’s name, CEB also requires that person’s written acceptance of the scheme’s billing calculation and account reclassification before the connection agreement is signed.
  • Neither you, your spouse nor any other occupant of the residence may already have received a grant under this scheme.
  • A system above 3.5 kW of alternating-current capacity must include battery storage sufficient to meet the household’s evening electricity needs for at least three hours. The maximum installation capacity is 50 kW. Grid exports must stay within 5 kW per electrical phase; an export capacity of 5 kW or more requires a three-phase connection under the grid code. Ask your installer to confirm that the inverter, which converts the solar panels’ electricity for household and grid use, is the “Grid Forming” type required by CEB. Installations above 10 kW of alternating-current capacity require a CEB network survey before installation and a letter of intent. Connection also depends on available capacity at the local transformer, including other generators already connected there.
  • The installation must comply with the CEB grid code and connection agreement, including safety and operating requirements. Obtain all applicable permits and authorisations before CEB commissions it. CEB will withhold grid connection until non-compliance is remedied.
  • CEB holds applications from customers in litigation with it until the dispute is effectively settled. If you already operate a system under another CEB scheme on the same electricity account, terminate that connection agreement to enter the current one.

How to apply

  • Applications are considered first come, first served, subject to available funds. Submission does not guarantee approval.[^c5]

First visit your local CEB Customer Service Centre and sign the connection agreement before applying for the grant. CEB charges a non-refundable Rs 2,000 processing fee to your electricity account.

Then submit Section B.1 of the DBM online grant form and retain your application number. Applications are considered first come, first served while funds remain, and submission does not guarantee approval. DBM will call you to attend the bank with the supporting documents listed in Section B.2 and complete its assessment. If eligible, you receive the purchase coupon and pay DBM’s processing fee.

Complete installation within nine months of signing the CEB connection agreement, except for unforeseen events. Submit the installation certificate, completed-system electrical diagram and, where applicable, battery operating scenario certified by the qualified installer. After CEB’s inspection, complete any work it requests within one week of the inspection and notify CEB on 8912. Obtain its certificate of compliance and complete commissioning.

DBM can cancel an application for missing its document or completion deadline, failing the scheme criteria, false information or arrangements with a supplier that bypass its procedures. For later changes to the solar system, obtain CEB’s prior consent; a change that does not increase maximum output instead requires at least 15 working days’ notice. An increase in maximum output requires a new connection application.
