NOSTRADAMUS farm digital application grants
Grants of up to €50,000 help small businesses develop open-source farm decision tools, including cereal adaptation and drought-resilience applications.
Ta możliwość jest obecnie dostępna po angielsku.
Develop, test and validate a digital application using the NOSTRADAMUS agricultural-data platform. Choose exactly one topic: cereal production under changing climate and soil conditions; nutrient and soil health; water efficiency and drought resilience; predictive pest and disease management; or an integrated application combining at least two of those topics.
The grant covers justified project costs, including staff, software, data and necessary travel. Indirect costs are calculated at 25% of eligible direct costs. Equipment purchases count only through depreciation for actual project use during the action; leasing or rental costs cannot exceed comparable depreciation costs or include financing fees. Subcontracting is excluded. Budget for mandatory site visits, training and demonstration events.
Payment follows accepted outputs from four stages: training (10%), design (25%), development and validation (40%), and demonstration and assessment (25%). Report after each stage. The published contract allows payments to be withheld and paid funds reclaimed for contractual breaches; you must also repay sums recovered by the European Commission as directed by the coordinator.
Keep evidence of project implementation for five years after project termination, and longer until any ongoing checks, audits, investigations, litigation or claims finish. Make it available on request. Contract amendments require a separate written agreement signed by all parties.
Eligibility
- Apply alone as a registered small or medium-sized enterprise (SME), start-up or small mid-cap business, or lead a consortium of at most two entities. The business supplies the solution; a research organisation, university or sector/end-user representative such as a farmers’ association, cooperative or NGO can be the second partner to test it. Individuals and unincorporated start-ups cannot apply.
- SMEs must satisfy the European Commission SME definition: fewer than 250 full-time-equivalent staff over the reference year (annual work units) and annual turnover no more than €50 million or a balance sheet total no more than €43 million. Part-time, part-year and seasonal work count proportionally. Count owner-managers and active partners; exclude apprentices or students on vocational training contracts and time on maternity or parental leave. Use the Commission’s SME rules to include relevant partner and linked companies when calculating your size. A small mid-cap needs fewer than 499 employees and turnover no more than €100 million or a balance sheet total no more than €86 million.
- Every entity must be established in an EU Member State or a Horizon Europe associated country on the Commission’s updated list. Have a VAT number where national law requires it and a Participant Identification Code where applicable. EU-sanctioned entities are excluded.
- An organisation can participate in only one proposal. NOSTRADAMUS partners and formally linked organisations cannot apply; actual or potential selection and implementation conflicts are excluded.
- The project must be unique to this call. Previous sister-project grants do not exclude you, but declare other EU or national funding and demonstrate distinct, non-overlapping work. Reworking a product or service already actively funded by the EU is ineligible.
- Start with a solution validated in a laboratory (technology readiness level 4 or higher). Deliver a prototype demonstrated with users in an operational setting (level 7) within 12 months. Use the programme’s development environment unless NOSTRADAMUS explicitly agrees an alternative, and integrate with its documented data interfaces.
- Select one primary demonstration site for physical trials and events. Topics 1 and 2 offer Serbia or Slovenia; topic 3 offers Germany or Switzerland; topic 4 offers Cyprus or Germany; the combined topic uses countries available for its chosen topics. Validate transferability to the paired secondary region digitally, without additional physical trials or travel.
- Publish the funded software in a public version-controlled repository under a recognised open-source licence, with deployment, interface and dependency documentation. Public release is subject to legitimate restrictions for personal data, confidential or security-sensitive information, pre-existing intellectual-property rights, and protection and exploitation of project results. Exclude credentials and sensitive personal data from public repositories. Hold a demonstration event for at least ten participants and deliver an end-user training session, which may be combined with it.
- Complete at least ten hours of technical training and follow mandatory reporting. Dissemination includes a monthly social-media post, one programme podcast appearance, a demonstration video and a practical summary in the EIP-AGRI format for EU-FarmBook, alongside EU funding acknowledgement.
- Applying SMEs must not have convictions for fraud or other financial, unethical or illegal business practices, be bankrupt or under bankruptcy procedures, be in liquidation, or be excluded from EU funding. They must not be an “undertaking in difficulty” under Regulation 651/2014 Article 2(18): relevant tests include loss of more than half the company’s capital, insolvency or meeting creditor-triggered insolvency criteria, unrepaid rescue aid or a continuing restructuring plan. The loss-of-capital tests exempt SMEs established for less than three years; that exception does not remove the other tests.
