Alameda commercial heat pump water heater rebate
Alameda Municipal Power helps commercial customers replace natural-gas tank water heaters with all-electric heat pump water heating, with rebates up to $50,000.
Ta możliwość jest obecnie dostępna po angielsku.
Replace a natural-gas tank water heater with an all-electric heat pump water heater. AMP pays a rebate after it approves the completed installation.
The calculation adds $50 per gallon for equipment and its direct installation labor and materials, $1,000 per system for electrical infrastructure, and $750 per site for engineering and permitting. A system is one connected water-heating network, regardless of how many heating elements it has. A site is an address, or group of addresses, owned or operated by one AMP customer.
The total is limited to the lower of $50,000 and 50% of eligible project costs. Deduct other grants, rebates and incentives from those costs first. The rebate also cannot exceed the pre-tax equipment purchase price after discounts, credits and other rebates. You cannot use another AMP rebate for the same electrification measure.
Eligible costs cover work on your side of the electricity meter, including direct installation labor and materials and on-site electrical service or panel upgrades. Utility-side trenching, conduit and wiring, AMP interconnection fees, transformer upgrades and other utility work are excluded.
Eligibility
You must be an active AMP commercial customer in good standing on rate code A1, A2, A3 or M1. You must own the property or have the owner's written appointment as agent on an AMP-approved form. Install and use the equipment at your AMP service address.
The project must replace an existing natural-gas tank water heater with an all-electric heat pump water heater. New construction is excluded, including installing or remodeling an additional dwelling unit (a separate home added to the property). Use new, energy-efficient equipment installed according to the manufacturer's specifications. Used, reconditioned, rebuilt or restored equipment is excluded, as are equipment gifts, items bundled with another purchase, resold items and equipment received through warranty insurance claims. You must not resell the equipment.
Customers can reapply every five years, subject to programme requirements.
How to apply

- Written AMP preapproval is required before installation.
- Complete within six months of preapproval, unless AMP grants an extension.
- Apply within six months of equipment purchase.
- Applications are first come, first served and may be held or rejected when funding is exhausted.
Start from AMP's commercial rebate page and use its “Apply Now” route to request preapproval. AMP's rebate team can be contacted at rebates@alamedamp.com. Submit itemized installation estimates, proposed equipment specification sheets and photos of the existing equipment. AMP may arrange a pre-installation inspection. You must receive its written Pre-Approval Letter before installation begins; this confirms eligibility and secures your place in the funding queue.
Applications are processed in order of receipt while funds remain. They may be held or rejected if funds run out. A submitted application does not reserve money by itself. Programme changes do not affect projects that already have a Pre-Approval Letter.
Complete the project within six months of written preapproval. AMP may extend this if you show sufficient progress. Separately, submit the rebate application within six months of buying the equipment.
After completion, provide paid invoices showing material and labor costs, the final signed City of Alameda building permit if required, any revised scope and specifications, and photos of the new equipment and capped gas lines. Equipment photos must include the old and new nameplates. Infrastructure claims need the final building permit; engineering and permitting claims need the contractor or engineering firm's invoice and permitting invoice. AMP inspects the completed project and sends a check after approving payment. It may request further documents and deny payment if they are not supplied in a reasonable time.
Keep the installation in place for at least ten years. Earlier removal can require repayment of a proportion of the rebate by the owner or agent, except for repair or replacement with an equivalent electric water-heating system. Allow AMP to receive usage data for up to three years after installation. You must comply with applicable California prevailing wage requirements, which govern the wages paid for covered work and cover AMP against liability for damages caused by or related to the installed equipment (indemnification).
AMP also retains inspection rights for 24 months after application. Failure to allow inspection or provide requested documents can lead to denial; noncompliance after payment requires surrender of the rebate.
