Residential weatherization rebate

Southwest Iowa Rural Electric CooperativeIowado 2,2 tys. USD

Rebates for cooperative members adding insulation and permanent draught sealing to older homes with qualifying electric heat or central air conditioning.

Ta możliwość jest obecnie dostępna po angielsku.

For homes with qualifying electric heat, the rebate covers 60% of qualifying costs: up to $600 each for attic/ceiling, wall and foundation insulation, and $200 each for permanent air-leak sealing and duct insulation/sealing. The combined maximum is $2,200 per home for as long as the programme is offered.

Homes qualifying only through central air conditioning receive 15% of qualifying attic/ceiling and wall insulation costs, capped at $150 each and $300 per home. Foundation insulation, air-leak sealing and duct work are excluded from that route. These category limits also apply for as long as the programme is offered.

Self-installed projects cannot include your labour costs. Contractor invoices must show the total material and labour cost for each installation type. If you generate some of your electricity, the cooperative reduces the rebate in proportion to the share of power it supplies.

Eligibility

  • You must be a cooperative member installing improvements at a location it serves. The residential home must have been built before 2000; new additions are excluded. Total project costs must be at least $150.
  • For the electric-heat route, the electric system must heat 75% of the home and operate before any non-electric backup. Portable space heaters do not count as the primary system. Air conditioning is not required. For the central-AC-only route, central air conditioning must cool the whole home except the basement, and the heating system must not qualify for the electric-heat route. Equipment is subject to cooperative inspection and minimum electricity-use requirements.
  • Insulation must start below the programme’s existing R-value levels and reach its required final levels. R-value measures resistance to heat flow: higher values mean more insulation. Attic/ceiling insulation must start below R-20 and finish at least R-38. Walls must start below R-13 and finish at least R-13, with at least R-5 added. Foundations must start below R-8 and finish at least R-5, with at least R-5 added. Duct insulation must start below R-3 and finish at least R-8. The form provides a thickness-based calculation if the existing value is unknown.
  • Permanent air-leak sealing includes house wraps, vapour barriers, permanent weatherstripping, caulking and foam sealing. Temporary removable caulking and plastic window covers are excluded.
  • A professional must carry out duct insulation/sealing. Only ducts in unconditioned spaces, such as an attic or crawlspace, qualify. Work where both ducts and heating equipment are in the basement is excluded. Duct sealing must use mastic sealant, not duct tape.

  • Standard R10 route for eligible cooperative members; apply within six months of the invoice purchase date.
  • The 2026 offer covers products purchased or services rendered on or after January 1, 2026; this is the eligible purchase/service period.
  • Applications received after January 31 are subject to the current year’s programme offer. Check with the cooperative before work; it may change or terminate the programme.

Before starting, check with Southwest Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative that the programme is still in effect and read all terms with your contractor. Tell the contractor that invoices must show costs separately for each installation type. The 2026 offer covers products purchased or services supplied on or after January 1, 2026.

Complete the standard R10 form, record the original conditions and upgrades, obtain the member and contractor/vendor signatures, and attach the itemized invoice and requested product information. The cooperative may request equipment performance sheets and inspect the original equipment or installed measures. Noncompliant claims may be denied or adjusted.

Mail or drop off the completed form at Corning, 2248 Avenue of Industries, Corning, IA 50841, or Mount Ayr, 1502 W South Street, Mt. Ayr, IA 50854. Call (888) 220-4869 for programme questions. Apply within six months of the purchase date on your invoice. Applications received after January 31 are subject to the current year’s offer, and earlier eligibility does not guarantee qualification under current rules.
