Commercial Space and Water Heating Rebate
Rebates for eligible high-efficiency heating, water-heating and heat-recovery equipment in Saskatchewan commercial buildings.
Esta oportunidade está atualmente disponível em inglês.
Get a rebate for eligible high-efficiency heating, hot-water and heat-recovery equipment in a Saskatchewan commercial building. SaskEnergy administers the programme with funding from SaskEnergy and SaskPower. Equipment can serve indoor space heating, domestic hot water or pool heating, subject to the equipment-specific rules. All amounts below are in Canadian dollars.
Replacement equipment only:
- Furnaces: $325 per unit; minimum 97% annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE), the programme's furnace efficiency rating.
- Condensing water heaters: $5 per MBH of input capacity, capped at $10,000 per building. MBH means 1,000 British Thermal Units per hour. Below 75 MBH, the minimum Uniform Energy Factor (UEF) is 0.80; above 75 MBH, or for models not subject to UEF classification, minimum thermal efficiency (TE) is 95%. These are the efficiency ratings used to check the heater against the eligible-equipment list.
- Rooftop units: $60 per ton of cooling capacity, for units from 5.4 to 20 tons. The unit must be at least two-stage, gas-fired and fitted with an economizer. Its Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) must be at least 12. Its Integrated Energy Efficiency Ratio (IEER) must be at least 14.6 below 11.25 tons, or at least 14 from 11.25 to 20 tons. Check these published efficiency ratings and features against the listed model.
- Variable-speed electronically commutated motor (ECM) pumps: $30 per unit below 100 watts, or $0.40 per watt from 100 to 1,500 watts. The pump must primarily distribute space heating for the building and must not exceed 1,500 watts.
Replacement or new construction:
- Boiler plants: $750 up to 300 MBH of capacity, plus $3 per MBH above 300 MBH, capped at $35,850 per building or property. Each boiler must have at least 95% AFUE or thermal efficiency.
- Tankless water heaters: $1,000 per unit. Below 75 MBH, minimum UEF is 0.87; above 75 MBH, or for models not subject to UEF classification, minimum thermal efficiency is 95%.
- Heat recovery ventilators (HRVs) and energy recovery ventilators (ERVs): $0.75 per cubic foot per minute (CFM) of airflow, capped at $5,000 per building or property. The unit must have at least 65% sensible heat recovery effectiveness (SRE), the required heat-recovery performance measure, and completed testing documentation under an accepted standard or certification. The accepted routes are AHRI 1060 (IP), ANSI/AHRI 1061 (SI), ANSI/ASHRAE/IES 90.1, ASHRAE 84, AHRI/ARI certification, CAN/CSA C439-18, HVI Rated Energy Performance or ENERGY STAR certification.
- Infrared tube heaters: $600 per single-stage unit, $1,000 per dual-stage or modulating unit, or $1,200 per condensing unit. Each heater must have an input rating of at least 40 MBH and serve indoor space heating; outdoor patio heaters are excluded.
Funding is limited, and SaskEnergy and SaskPower can limit the number or amount of rebates. The rate schedule generally follows the date SaskEnergy receives a complete application; approved optional pre-approval secures the rules and amount for its validity period.
Eligibility
- You must be a SaskEnergy commercial customer, pay the invoice and be the building developer, builder, owner or the owner's designated representative. Your annual natural gas consumption must not exceed 660,000 m³.
- The installation must be in Saskatchewan. Equipment must use natural gas, except HRVs/ERVs and variable-speed ECM pumps. Retail stores, municipal buildings, restaurants, community halls, nonprofit buildings and non-residential farm buildings are examples of eligible commercial premises.
- Apartment buildings qualify when a central heating unit serves multiple dwellings. Row housing, duplexes, houses converted to apartments and residences with a commercial element, such as a bed and breakfast, are excluded.
- A garage qualifies only if it is detached, all its floor space is used commercially or non-residentially, and it has a separate dedicated meter. Residential garages are excluded.
- If your organization is owned, operated or primarily funded, directly or indirectly, by the Province of Saskatchewan or the Government of Canada, it needs SaskEnergy's discretionary approval and available funding. This includes qualifying hospitals, schools, government departments and ministries, and Crown corporations.
- Equipment must be new and appear on SaskEnergy's eligible-equipment lists. Used or rebuilt equipment and units received as gifts, contest awards or prizes are excluded. Auction purchases and units covered by an insurance claim can qualify. Equipment being replaced must not be eligible for the manufacturer's warranty.
- A gas contractor with a valid applicable TSASK Domestic, General or Employer licence must install the equipment in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications and applicable laws, codes and standards. Furnaces, condensing water heaters, rooftop units and ECM pumps must replace existing equipment.
- If you receive this rebate, you must not apply for or receive a rebate or incentive from another provincial energy-efficiency rebate programme for the same units. You cannot assign or transfer your rebate.
You must notify SaskEnergy of material changes to your application or information. SaskEnergy can recover a paid rebate as a debt if you breach the terms, become ineligible or receive a rebate in error. It can also reduce payment by debts owed to it or its affiliates.
Participation permits inspections with 48 hours' notice before or after payment, and access to account information and billing data for five years before and five years after participation to evaluate energy savings. Where applicable, you transfer associated greenhouse-gas reduction or carbon credits to SaskEnergy and SaskPower. GST-registered applicants must remit the GST included in the rebate to the Receiver General of Canada.
How to apply
- Estado
- Aberto continuamente
- Condições do período de candidaturas
- SaskEnergy must receive your application within 120 days of completed installation.[^c33]
- Funding is limited and rebate numbers or amounts may be restricted.[^c42]
- If pre-approved, complete installation and submit the final application before your pre-approval period expires. This period lasts up to one year from the pre-approval letter, and the 120-day deadline after installation also applies.[^c36][^c33]
Choose a TSASK-licensed contractor and check the model against the eligible-equipment list on SaskEnergy's programme page before installation. For an estimated rebate of $7,500 or more, you can use the optional pre-approval form to secure eligibility and the estimated amount under the rules in effect when approved. Pre-approval lasts up to one year from the approval letter: complete installation and submit the final application before that period expires.
After installation, apply through SaskEnergy's online Commercial Rebate Application Form, or have your contractor apply for you. SaskEnergy must receive the application within 120 days of completed installation, including after pre-approval. Have your SaskEnergy account number, old and new equipment details, and the invoice showing applicant and contractor names, installation address, new equipment makes/models and installation date. The form allows applicants who have no pre-approval.
SaskEnergy reviews your documents. If approved, it issues a cheque or bill credit, at its discretion where applicable, within six to eight weeks after receiving all required documents and approving the application.
