Newry Credit Union’s Green Loan provides money for eco-friendly home improvements, including solar panels and boiler upgrades. You must provide proof of purchase.
You repay the borrowed money and interest over the agreed term, which can be up to ten years. Green Loans receive no interest rebate. You can increase your payments, and there are no hidden fees or early repayment penalties.
Free loan protection insurance is offered for loans below £8,000, subject to its terms and conditions. Loans above £8,000 may also be insured at no cost after a health declaration. Missed repayments put the account into arrears and may affect your credit rating and future access to credit.
Eligibility
- You must be a member. To join, you must live or work within eleven miles of Newry Credit Union when your account is opened, and within Northern Ireland.
- The credit union must assess that you can repay both the loan and interest within the agreed term. It requires a credit search and at least one month of bank statements.
- If employed, provide your last month’s payslip. If self-employed, provide your most recent accounts and latest tax returns or notice of self-assessment. Social-welfare recipients need at least one month’s bank statement; retired applicants need proof of all pensions.
- For the loan, provide photo ID and address evidence: a utility bill or bank statement dated within three months, or a government-issued document dated within twelve months.
- Opening a membership account requires separate photo and address identification. The same document cannot serve both purposes, and statements must come from an institution other than Newry Credit Union.
