Energy efficiency and renewable energy grant
Individuals can receive a municipal grant on top of state aid for home energy renovation and renewable energy installations in Esch-sur-Alzette.

The municipal grant is calculated from your state grant, rather than the total project bill. For homes older than ten years, it adds 20% of state aid for wall, roof and attic-floor insulation and energy advice; 100% for insulation above an unheated basement; and 50% for replacement windows and doors. Heat-recovery ventilation receives 10%, capped at €600 for a single-family home or €500 per apartment, up to €3,000 for an apartment building.
For homes of any age, the grant supports these state-aided installations:
- Solar thermal for hot water: 30% of state aid. For apartment buildings, the cap is €700 per apartment and €3,500 per building. If the system also assists space heating, the apartment caps rise to €1,000 and €5,000 respectively.
- Solar photovoltaic panels: 10% of the state investment grant.
- Central pellet or log heating: 20% of state aid for a single-family home; 10% for an apartment building, capped at €500 per apartment and €2,500 per building.
- Heat pumps: 10% of state aid, capped at €750 for a single-family home, or €750 per apartment and €3,750 per apartment building.
Eligibility
You must be an individual who has carried out the investment within Esch-sur-Alzette and received the corresponding state aid after 1 January 2016. The current application form requires the installation or work to be supported by Klimabonus. The claim is made by the person bearing the expenses. The legal representative of a group can apply on behalf of its individual beneficiaries.
- Investments made by private or public legal entities, secondhand installations and installations that fail environmental emissions criteria are excluded.
- Each installation type can receive this municipal grant only once per home. Awards depend on the municipal budget available.
- By applying, you agree to municipal on-site checks. The city may request further documents to verify the conditions. Grants obtained through false declarations or inaccurate information must be repaid.

- Apply after completing the work and obtaining the state grant certificate, within three months of receiving the document stating the state award amount. Municipal budget limits apply.
Complete the works and obtain the state grant certificate first. Submit the municipal claim to the Service écologique within three months of receiving the document stating your state grant amount.
Use the city's online renewable energy and renovation grant form. Supply the document detailing the state award, indicate whether the work is a new installation, modification or replacement, and provide your name, address and bank account. The Service écologique decides the claim; the regulation also gives its postal address as BP 145, L-4002 Esch-sur-Alzette.
