Norrsken Launcher invests around €1 million–€3 million per company and becomes a part-owner. Its team works alongside founders for 3–9 months to build teams, bring innovations to market and support further fundraising. It makes 2–3 selective investments a year.
The portfolio includes small modular nuclear reactors and technology to cut emissions from industrial steam. Launcher focuses on Europe and expects most investments to be Nordic-based.
Eligibility
Launcher backs companies built on transformative research, typically at the first financing stages known as pre-seed or seed. It looks for:
- Deliberate, measurable benefits for people or the environment. The contribution to at least one UN Sustainable Development Goal must be central to the business and grow as the company grows.
- A strong research foundation, a product that stands apart from competitors and a competitive position in intellectual property, such as rights protecting the innovation.
- Founders with a strong research track record who want to collaborate with Launcher and receive help in complementary areas.
- A market with strong financial prospects and the potential to win a substantial share and build a large business.
- A need for help turning the innovation into a business that can grow, with a clear role for Launcher’s support.
Companies undergo sustainability and excluded-activity screening. Investments must qualify as sustainable under EU disclosure rules, and Launcher will not invest when adverse-impact risks outweigh positive impacts. Meeting the EU Taxonomy’s criteria for environmentally sustainable activities is not required.
Governance checks cover management, employee relations, pay and tax compliance. Early companies without fully developed sustainability standards and a code of conduct must commit to establish them as soon as reasonably possible after investment and address risks identified during assessment.
Funded companies report agreed impact measures quarterly. They also report annually on environmental, social and governance risks, how these are managed, and any incidents and mitigation efforts.
