Green roof grant

Municipality of SmallingerlandPaíses Baixos

Residents, companies and organisations can receive a grant to install a green roof on a property in Smallingerland.

Esta oportunidade está atualmente disponível em inglês.

The grant helps pay for buying and installing a planted roof that holds rainwater and limits flooding. Both extensive roofs, which are not intended to be walked on, and intensive roofs used as roof gardens are covered.

The published rates are €30 per m² for roof areas up to 75 m², €20 per m² for areas from 75 to 200 m², and €10 per m² for areas from 200 to 1,000 m². Residents can receive at most €3,000 per application; companies and organisations can receive at most €12,000 per application.

Eligibility

  • You must own the building, or be a tenant with the owner’s permission. Tenants must attach written permission to their application.
  • Each application must cover at most one parcel in Smallingerland and one applicant category: residents or companies/organisations.
  • The roof slope must be no greater than 65°. Its substrate, the layer in which plants grow, must be at least 5 cm thick. You must use a drainage plate that retains water and a root-resistant layer to prevent leaks.
  • The grant may only contribute to the purchase and/or installation of the green roof. You may install it yourself. The municipality recommends having a building specialist check that the roof structure is strong enough.
  • Wait for municipal approval before carrying out the work. Complete the installation and pay the invoice within four months of approval. The municipality carries out random checks.
