Sweden and International project support

Swedish Postcode Lottery FoundationSuécia

Civil-society organisations can seek grants for time-limited public-benefit projects in Sweden or abroad, including climate initiatives. Project ideas are accepted throughout the year.

This programme supports projects that address societal challenges and contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Climate is one of its supported areas alongside other public-benefit purposes.

Grants average about SEK 2 million. There are no fixed limits on the amount requested, though awards below SEK 700,000 are exceptional. The request is assessed against the project’s scope and the organisation’s turnover, capacity and experience managing grants. Projects usually last 12–24 months.

Co-funding is not required. If other funders participate, the budget must show which costs this grant would cover and whether the other funding is confirmed. Explain the activities and results achievable with this grant.

Eligibility

Apply as a public-benefit charitable organisation, such as a registered nonprofit, nonprofit association or public-benefit foundation. Carrying out a nonprofit project does not by itself make another type of organisation eligible.

The project must have a defined period, differ from ordinary operations, contribute to at least one UN Sustainable Development Goal and benefit the public. It must fall outside the responsibilities of the state, region or municipality. Projects generally have a wider geographical reach than one locality; exceptions can be made for particularly innovative projects or those with potential to spread.

The programme excludes economic associations (ekonomiska föreningar), party-political or religious organisations and initiatives, public-sector activities, individuals, members of Svenska Postkodföreningen, and organisations already receiving ongoing support from the foundation. It also excludes student exchanges, study trips, internships and scholarships; projects consisting only of short events; and requests covering only travel, construction, renovation or similar costs.

Assessment considers the organisation’s ability to deliver, the project’s relevance, its methods and feasibility, and clear measurable results with potential for lasting change.

How to apply

Estado
Aberto continuamente

Follow Apply Here on the official programme page to submit a concise project idea and budget. Explain what is distinctive, why the project is needed and what change it can achieve. The foundation asks to receive this first application at least four months before the intended start; initial feedback usually comes within four to six weeks.

If the idea progresses, provide references and organisation documents such as annual accounts, registration certificate and statutes. A foundation project manager then helps you prepare a full project plan, timetable and budget. Decisions are made continuously. If approved, both parties sign an agreement; the first payment follows and the project can begin.
