Te Pūtea Whakamauru Para Waste Minimisation Fund
Grants for New Zealand legal entities building infrastructure that keeps organic waste out of landfill.

The fund currently supports infrastructure for sorting, recovering and processing organic waste. Eligible examples include food-waste reduction, composting or anaerobic-digestion facilities, timber recovery and feasibility studies for those priorities.
The minimum grant is NZ$100,000 for a business case, feasibility study or pilot, and NZ$250,000 for other projects. The usual contribution is up to 40% for commercial proposals or 50% where there is a strong public benefit; exceptionally, it can reach 75%.
Eligibility
You must apply through a New Zealand-based legal entity, and the project must take place in New Zealand. Mixed-waste projects can qualify only when organic waste is the main focus.
The fund does not cover routine operating costs, projects that have started, land purchases, debt repayment or pure research without a clear commercial route. The WMF funds only a portion of the project. Volunteer time and facilities do not count towards the remaining contribution.

Check the current priorities and submit the short enquiry form in the Ministry’s Funds Management System. The Ministry reviews the enquiry first and invites suitable projects to make a full application.
