Electric water heater incentives
BHEC members can receive electric water-heater rebates or Marathon purchase discounts for installations at a location served by the cooperative.

For a non-Marathon electric water heater, BHEC pays $100 when you replace a fossil-fuel water heater. It also publishes a $50 rebate for replacing or installing a non-Marathon electric water heater. On-demand heaters are excluded from these rebates.
For Marathon water heaters, the rebate reduces the purchase price: 25% when replacing an existing electric water heater, 50% for new construction, or 75% when replacing an existing fossil-fuel water heater. These percentages apply to the heater price.
Eligibility
- You must be a BHEC member and install the heater at a location served by BHEC. The cooperative serves parts of six counties in southwestern South Dakota.
- You must allow BHEC to install a Demand Response Unit on the heater. This equipment lets the cooperative switch the heater off during peak electricity demand. BHEC installs the equipment at no charge, but may choose not to install it if it would not benefit its membership.
