Nebraska Public Power DistrictNebraska400–3,3 mil USD

Homeowners served by NPPD or a participating utility can receive $400–$3,300 per qualifying heat pump for residential space heating.

The EnergyWise High Efficiency Heat Pump programme helps pay for a new heat pump that heats and cools your home. Your local electric utility provides the direct incentive as a payment or credit to the utility account holder after installation. The application offers a choice between this incentive and a separate low-interest loan.

The amounts below apply per qualifying heat pump with the required equipment certificate. The efficiency figures are the ratings your contractor must check for the matched indoor and outdoor units. The programme accepts either the listed original ratings or the corresponding SEER2, EER2 and HSPF2 ratings shown below.

Heat pump Required ratings or documentation Rebate
Ductless mini-split At least 16 SEER, 12.5 EER and 8.5 HSPF; or at least 16 SEER2, 12.5 EER2 and 7.7 HSPF2 $400
Variable-capacity ductless mini-split Manufacturer literature showing the unit is inverter driven $600
Variable-capacity ductless mini-split with multiple indoor heads, at least 3 tons Manufacturer literature showing the unit is inverter driven $1,200
Air-source, first tier 16–16.9 SEER, at least 12.5 EER and 8.5 HSPF; or 15.2–16 SEER2, at least 11.7 EER2 and 7.5 HSPF2 $400
Air-source, second tier 17–18.9 SEER, at least 12.5 EER and 8.5 HSPF; or 16.1–18 SEER2, at least 11.7 EER2 and 7.5 HSPF2 $800
Air-source, highest tier At least 19 SEER, 12.5 EER and 8.5 HSPF; or at least 18.1 SEER2, 11.7 EER2 and 7.5 HSPF2 $1,200
Variable-capacity air-source Manufacturer literature showing the unit is inverter driven $1,200
One- or two-stage geothermal, water-to-air or water-to-water Any EER $2,400
Variable-capacity geothermal, water-to-air or water-to-water At least 35 EER and 5.0 COP in the ground-loop heat-pump (GLHP) partial-load column of the AHRI or Energy Star certificate $3,300

For variable-capacity units, supply the manufacturer’s evidence that the compressor uses an inverter. For the higher geothermal amount, your contractor must check the specified partial-load column rather than a different efficiency figure.

If you install two or more qualifying heat pumps in the same house, each can receive its full incentive. Get utility approval before purchase or installation if incentives exceed $5,000. A facility also needs pre-approval to receive more than $100,000 in EnergyWise incentives in a year. Each energy-conservation measure can receive only one incentive.

You keep the savings on your energy bills. The local utility and NPPD receive all associated energy, capacity, reserve and emissions benefits, apart from those bill savings. You must provide documents they request to confirm ownership of those benefits. NPPD may check the installation and programme documents, makes the final compliance decision and may cancel the programme without notice.

Eligibility

You must be a residential homeowner with an electricity account served by Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) or one of its participating wholesale electric utilities. The heat pump must be permanently installed in a single-family dwelling and primarily used for space heating. A mobile home must have a permanent foundation.

Separately metered homes in multifamily buildings use separate residential applications. Master-metered buildings use the Commercial HVAC programme. New construction, conversion from fossil-fuel heating and replacement of an existing heat pump are covered; homes built within the last five years remain eligible for the direct incentive.

The indoor and outdoor equipment combination must be listed by the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) and meet the relevant table requirements. Attach its AHRI certificate: it identifies the matched equipment and ratings the utility checks. Both homeowner and installing contractor must sign the application, and the contractor must complete the start-up checklist.

A cottage or cabin must be heated during October through May. Additions and supplemental systems qualify only if large enough for their own dedicated heating and cooling system. Package Terminal Heat Pumps (PTHPs) are excluded. If electricity is the home’s primary heating source, solar panels, a wood stove or a fireplace do not prevent an incentive.

How to apply

Estado
Aberto continuamente
Condições do período de candidaturas
  • Submit the completed application within six months after installation is completed and operational.
  • NPPD may cancel the programme without notice.

Download the heat-pump application and select “Direct Incentive”. Your installing contractor must complete the manufacturer’s required start-up testing, review the ductwork and discuss potential issues with you. The form requires temperature readings after at least ten minutes in heat-pump mode, with readings for at least two indoor units in multi-head air-source systems. For water-to-air or water-to-water systems, it also requires the relevant temperatures and flow measurements.

After installation is complete and the equipment is operating, submit the signed form, AHRI certificate and itemized sales receipts or invoices to your local electric utility within six months. Receipts must identify the equipment and purchase date or work performed. The utility decides whether to pay you or credit the utility account. Contact your local utility with application questions.
