Building mechanical-system optimization grant
Grants for Énergir business customers to reduce natural gas use by improving how existing building mechanical systems work together.
Această oportunitate este disponibilă momentan în limba engleză.
Recommissioning means examining your existing building systems, identifying why they use more energy than necessary, and improving their performance together. This grant supports investigation, implementation, transfer of operating knowledge and documentation to your staff, and continuous monitoring.
Énergir pays 75% of eligible investigation, transfer and monitoring costs. For implementation, it pays CAD 1 per cubic metre of natural gas saved in the first year after approved measures are implemented, limited to 75% of their eligible implementation costs. Each funded implementation measure must have a payback period of at least one year: its implementation cost divided by the annual value of its natural gas savings. All phases together are capped at CAD 100,000 per project.
Monitoring must last at least two years; you may extend it to ten years in total. Eligible monitoring costs include consulting fees and annual reports. Complementary energy-distributor and government assistance may be combined, except ÉcoPerformance assistance. Total assistance cannot exceed 75% of eligible costs: Énergir reduces its payment if necessary so you pay at least 25%.
Eligibility
- You must be a current Énergir customer. The offer targets buildings or groups of buildings using at least 75,000 m³ of natural gas annually; lower consumption requires Énergir’s specific approval. Its gas-customer network is in Québec.
- Your building must not have been covered by an agreement to pay assistance under the Recommissioning or New Efficient Construction grants within the preceding five years.
- Use a certified recommissioning (RCx) agent working for an Énergir-registered consulting engineering firm. Submit the admission request and plan before starting the project. Énergir must judge the potential savings satisfactory.
- Energy-source substitution, equipment replacement, procedures, tariff optimization and maintenance measures are excluded. Measures eligible for Énergir’s prescriptive programmes or its study, encouragement and implementation grants are also excluded. The project cannot be the subject of an ÉcoPerformance recommissioning assistance request.
- Energy service companies may apply only with Énergir’s specific approval and must submit the required invoices and supporting documents for each phase.
- Complete every phase and comply with applicable standards and regulations. Otherwise Énergir may cancel the application and reclaim payments. If the grant ceiling is reached before project completion, it may retain some assistance or require a modified payment agreement.

Before starting, work with your certified agent to complete Tab 1 of Form I, the Excel admission application. Email it to energyefficiency@energir.com with Form II, the Simplified Plan, as a PDF, or a planning report containing the same information. The plan describes the building and systems, energy profile, investigation method, timetable and phase costs. Énergir confirms its decision, amount, completion timeframe and conditions in writing; investigation follows confirmation of eligibility.
The agent has six months after that confirmation to investigate and produce the report. Submit the report, measures and cost declarations for Énergir’s approval. Complete implementation within two years after Énergir confirms payment of the investigation assistance. The implementation report is due within two years after acceptance of that first payment. Tell Énergir if a timeframe cannot be met; late work can result in refused payment.
Declare changes to approved measures and costs in the implementation report, with revised savings calculations where relevant. Énergir may require report changes and suspend assistance until it accepts the report. You must also notify it if the authorized plan or timetable is not respected, or it may refuse payment.
Your agent must submit an annual monitoring report and Form III for the two years following confirmation of implementation and transfer payment, and for any further funded monitoring years. Claim each phase’s payment with the relevant Form I payment request, approved reports and supporting invoices. GST/QST-registered beneficiaries must invoice Énergir for the assistance with applicable GST/QST. Submitted information must be accurate and complete; false declarations may lead to full repayment.
