Grant to convert cars and vans to electric power

French StateFranțapână la 9 K EUR

Help with conversion costs for people and organisations in France: up to €5,000 for a car or €9,000 for a van, depending on income and vehicle class.

Această oportunitate este disponibilă momentan în limba engleză.

The prime au rétrofit helps replace a combustion engine with battery-electric or fuel-cell electric power instead of buying another vehicle. The grant is deducted from the conversion invoice, leaving you to pay the remaining cost. These terms cover electric passenger-car and van conversions. Plug-in hybrid conversions have separate conditions, and organisations cannot claim that variant.

For a car, the higher award is 80% of the conversion cost, capped at €5,000. It applies to the lower-income and qualifying work-travel groups explained below. Other eligible individuals and legal entities receive €1,500.

For a van, the ordinary maximum is €4,000 in class I, €6,000 in class II or €8,000 in class III. For the same lower-income and qualifying work-travel groups, these maxima rise to €5,000, €7,000 and €9,000 respectively. These are ceilings, not flat-rate payments.

The van’s class depends on its reference mass: take the running-order mass in field G of its registration certificate and add 25 kg. Class I is up to 1,305 kg; class II is above 1,305 kg and up to 1,760 kg; class III is above 1,760 kg.

Eligibility

  • Individuals must be adults domiciled in France with revenu fiscal de référence par part no higher than €26,200. This is the reference income on your tax notice divided by your household’s tax shares, not the number of people in the home. For a conversion invoiced in 2026, use 2024 income on the 2025 tax notice.
  • Companies, associations and other legal entities must have an establishment in France.
  • You must own the vehicle and have acquired it at least one year before conversion. The electric route covers passenger cars in category M1 (VP) and vans in category N1 (CTTE). Conversion must be carried out by an authorised professional; the ministry’s car guidance requires a car more than five years old that is not already electric.
  • Keep the converted car or van for at least one year after its conversion invoice and drive it at least 6,000 km before selling it. If you breach these commitments, inform the Agence de services et de paiement (ASP); the grant must be repaid within three months of the sale or contract change.

The higher award applies if your reference income per tax share is no more than €7,500. If it is above €7,500 and no more than €16,300, you must also meet either work-travel condition: the part of your home-to-work journey made exclusively in your personal vehicle exceeds 30 km, or you drive more than 12,000 km a year in your personal vehicle for your professional activity.

Contact an installer authorised by the conversion-kit manufacturer and listed among that manufacturer’s declared installers. The professional advances the grant and must show it on a separate line of your conversion invoice; ASP reimburses the professional on behalf of the State. You do not request a separate cash payment.

Complete the required declarations for keeping the vehicle and, where applicable, qualifying work mileage or attachment to your parents’ tax household. They accompany the professional’s reimbursement request.
