Kväveklivet

Swedish Board of AgricultureSuedia

A grant for farms and agricultural contractors investing in lower ammonia emissions or more efficient nitrogen use; new applications are paused.

Această oportunitate este disponibilă momentan în limba engleză.

Kväveklivet supports measures such as manure acidification, better manure removal, low-emission spreading equipment, nitrogen sensors and automatic shut-off for sections of a fertiliser spreader. Its two funding orientations address ammonia emissions and more precise nitrogen use. The government identifies reduced climate impact, acidification and eutrophication as intended benefits.

For ammonia-reduction investments, farms can receive up to 80% and eligible contractors up to 50% of eligible expenditure. Nitrogen-efficiency investments receive up to 30% for either applicant type. Jordbruksverket states aid ceilings of EUR 600,000 for a farm business and EUR 30 million for a contractor, subject to the applicable state-aid assessment. An advance of up to half the grant is possible only if requested with the original support application.

Eligibility

  • You must operate a farm or a “maskinstation”: a business contracted to work for farms or rent them vehicles or similar equipment for manure or mineral-fertiliser storage, treatment or spreading. Farms can obtain support for technical solutions or equipment; contractors are limited to equipment.
  • The programme requires micro, small or medium-sized enterprise status. The EU test uses fewer than 250 staff and either annual turnover no more than EUR 50 million or a balance-sheet total no more than EUR 43 million. Relevant staff and financial data from partner or linked businesses may need to be included.
  • Explain how the investment reduces ammonia emissions or improves nitrogen use. Measures already awarded other public support and measures required by EU or national law are excluded. Leasing is not eligible. Supported cost categories include buildings and installations, fixed and movable equipment, materials, necessary services and investments in assets without physical form (intangible investments), connected to the eligible measure and within the applicant-specific scope above. Contractors remain limited to equipment.
  • Apply before irreversible work begins, including construction, equipment purchases or orders, or using a service. Buying land, seeking permits, feasibility studies and investigations may precede application. Both invoice and payment dates for claimed costs must be on or after receipt of the application. Starting afterwards but before approval is at your own risk.
  • The business must not be in liquidation, bankruptcy or business reconstruction, have debts under enforcement by Kronofogden, or have unpaid recovery claims for Jordbruksverket support or aid ruled unlawful by the European Commission. Keep the investment in the same use in your business in Sweden for at least five years after the last payment. Consent to publication of aid details is required where the EU disclosure rules apply.
  • Used equipment requires a certificate that its previous purchase received no support, it has the needed technical characteristics, and its price is no more than market value and below equivalent new equipment. For instalment purchases, supply the agreement, the credit institution’s purchase invoices and evidence of your first instalment.

New applications are paused indefinitely because demand exceeds the budget. Approved applicants can still apply for payment. For existing applications submitted on 9–10 July 2025, decisions are scheduled during 2026 and requested advances in January 2027. Applications from 11 July 2025 are scheduled for a decision in January 2027. Applications from 12 July onwards currently have no budget for approval. Payment requests made during 2026 are scheduled to be paid in January 2027.

The application channel is Jordbruksverket’s project, investment and business-support e-service: select Kväveklivet. Submit one application per measure, signed by an authorised person. Describe the location, dates, costs, own financing and expected ammonia or nitrogen benefit; provide permits, price evidence, prior aid decisions, two years’ accounts, business-link information and a budget. Farms supply spreading-area and relevant animal/manure data; contractors explain how much the equipment is expected to be used and in which municipalities or counties it will be used. State manure volumes in cubic metres. Any advance must be requested at the initial application, not later.

Report changes affecting eligibility or the award promptly. There is one final payment claim. Submit it by the date in your decision, with evidence of completed work, achieved objectives, invoices and payment. Invoices must be paid by the claim’s receipt date. A late final claim receives no support and any advance must be repaid. Jordbruksverket also requires geotagged photos through Geofoto to verify the investment.
