Grid-responsive energy-management grant
Grants for businesses, municipalities and other organizations in Austria to install systems that automatically control electricity use, generation and storage in response to prices or grid signals.
Această oportunitate este disponibilă momentan în limba engleză.
An energy-management system coordinates equipment such as solar generation, batteries, charging points and heat pumps. This call funds the site analysis, planning, one-time software and hardware purchase, metering, communication and control equipment, and professional installation and configuration. It supports systems installed alongside new equipment or added to equipment already operating.
For the 2026 call, small and medium-sized enterprises and municipalities can receive up to 30% of recognized net costs; large enterprises can receive up to 20%. Other eligible organizations are assigned to the small/medium or large-enterprise category according to their size. The main grant is capped at €20,000 per applicant and submitted site. It is paid after the completed project has been accounted for and checked by Kommunalkredit Public Consulting (KPC). The Klima- und Energiefonds provides the funding.
Projects selected for accompanying research receive a €1,000 bonus, limited by the applicable state-aid ceiling. Selected participants provide quarter-hourly readings and system data covering a full operating year and take part in interviews. Selection and duties are specified with the funding contract; the bonus is paid after that year and the data submission.
Eligibility
Businesses, other organizations carrying on business, associations, religious institutions and public-law bodies can apply for a site connected at low-voltage network level 6 or 7 under TOR Verteilernetzanschluss für die Niederspannung, version 1.3.1. Energy-community sponsoring organizations and organizations for shared energy use are excluded from this call; participating in a community as a customer is a separate permitted flexibility option.
- The system must control at least two devices from at least two of these categories: renewable electricity generation; electricity storage; charging points rated above 3.7 kW; heat pumps serving buildings or business processes; or other electric machinery whose individual or combined full-load demand exceeds 25% of the site's maximum available electricity draw. Describe that machinery and its power in the application.
- If the site has generation, electricity storage or charging equipment capable of feeding electricity into the grid, its maximum capacity must be strictly below 250 kW. Where several such units are combined, the combined system must also be below 250 kW. Under the TOR rules for grid connections, this capacity is the maximum continuous active power at the grid connection, after subtracting power used solely to operate the generating plant and not fed into the grid. It considers the complete arrangement, including its controls and intended operating concept. Check the agreed maximum capacity, Pmax, in your network-connection contract rather than treating individual equipment ratings as the test.
- Complete a site analysis covering existing and planned equipment, generation/use and load profiles, and how the system can be used. It may be prepared by an energy adviser, internal staff or the installer. The control unit must be installed locally and continue processing and executing control instructions without an internet connection. Supplementary cloud functions are allowed; cloud-only control and systems used solely to optimize on-site self-consumption are excluded. An authorized specialist firm must carry out the work.
- The system must actively control equipment, process time-varying or dynamic electricity-price or network-tariff signals, measure imports and exports at the grid connection, and process instructions limiting import and, where relevant, export power. The installer confirms these functions in the acceptance report.
- Submit no more than one application per site and five per applicant.
Choose one of the six arrangements below and use it to control the system for five years, starting no later than submission of the final-account documents. State the planned option in the application and report the actual option, start date, contract partner and, where applicable, product name at final accounting. You may change options during the five years, but must actively report the change to KPC.
- A dynamic export contract: the price paid for electricity you feed into the grid reflects spot-market prices, at least the day-ahead market where electricity is traded for the following day, with hourly or quarter-hourly settlement.
- A dynamic supply contract: the price of electricity you buy reflects those spot-market prices, at least the day-ahead market, with hourly or quarter-hourly settlement.
- A contract with a flexibility service provider, such as an electricity supplier, virtual power plant or aggregator. The provider controls distributed electricity-consuming equipment, storage or generation to provide services to the power system or manage grid congestion.
- Flexible grid access: an agreement allows the network operator to set a fixed or varying power limit for an exporting connection where grid capacity is insufficient. Such limits can also be permanently agreed at the equipment operator's request. The grant requires the system to follow the chosen arrangement.
- A controllable network tariff: network-use charges are reduced if you respect specified power limits during defined periods. Availability for low-voltage levels 6 and 7 is expected from 1 January 2027. The summer low tariff, Sommer-Niedertarif (SNAP), does not qualify for this programme.
- Dynamic imports or exports through a local or regional energy community or nearby shared energy use. Your system must automatically control imports or exports using continuously updated information from the community about electricity demand and surpluses, or the community must actively control the system dynamically. Membership alone does not meet this option.
The grant does not pay for the generating plant, battery, charging equipment or other electricity-consuming equipment itself. Where equipment already incorporates energy-management components, only explicitly itemized extra costs for the energy-management system can qualify, provided another grant has not already covered them. Making a single component controllable without integrating it into an energy-management system does not qualify.
Other exclusions include recurring software subscriptions and operating costs; legally required measures; used components; unrelated equipment, certification or policy changes; taxes, fees and charges; self-installed materials, materials without installation and materials taken from stock; discounts even if unused; individual receipts below €100 net; and services invoiced above €5,000 net that are paid in cash. Further public funding cannot cover the same measure or investment share. Site-analysis and planning costs supported through a provincial business-energy-advice programme are excluded here. Declare all other requested, promised and received grants at final accounting.
If you finance the system through leasing, hire-purchase, contracting or a similar model, it must be owned by you or pass into your ownership no later than the last instalment. At final accounting, submit the financing contract, the underlying purchase invoice and proof of payments. The payout cannot exceed what you have actually paid by then; qualifying deposits and instalments are counted after deducting interest and fees.

- Submit by 12:00 on the closing date. The Klima- und Energiefonds may close the call early if funds are exhausted.
Apply online to KPC using the official page's Online-Einreichung link. Submit the completed application and cost schedule describing the equipment to be controlled and the planned system, with quotations for the main components showing that they meet the technical requirements. KPC must receive the application before your first legally binding order or any other commitment that makes the project irreversible, whichever happens first. Planning services alone may be recognized before that point.
Complete applications are assessed in order of receipt. KPC checks the project; approval by the Klima- und Energiefonds depends on sufficient funding. A funding entitlement requires a valid funding contract. Work may start from the application date; the contract normally sets completion six months after approval, followed by three months to prepare final-account documents. An extension is possible only in exceptional circumstances with evidence that the delay is beyond your control.
For payment, submit the final-account form, all invoices, site-analysis form, signed acceptance report completed by an authorized professional, and details of the chosen flexibility option. Request project or cost changes by the deadline in the assessment-result letter and before the earliest binding order, delivery, construction start or other irreversible commitment affecting the changed equipment. Use the Nachantrag form. Cost increases after approval are not recognized.
