Efficiency Works Homes water-heater rebates
Rebates help homeowners and landlords served by four northern Colorado electricity utilities replace electric, propane or natural-gas water heaters with certified heat-pump water heaters.
Această oportunitate este disponibilă momentan în limba engleză.
An ENERGY STAR-certified heat-pump water heater receives $600 per unit when replacing an electric or propane water heater, or $400 when replacing a natural-gas water heater. The home must be heated by gas or electricity.
Total incentives cannot exceed the upgrade’s total cost. If your total rebate would exceed $2,500, obtain preapproval before work begins; otherwise the rebate is capped at $2,500. Funds are limited and applications are considered in the order received until the budget is committed.
In 2026, eligible rental properties served by Fort Collins Utilities can receive double the standard retrofit rebate. The property must be used only as a rental, be occupied by tenants under an active lease lasting at least 12 months, and receive preapproval before work starts. The owner or person legally authorized to modify it must sign the rental attestation and provide supporting documents if requested. This bonus is subject to available funds.
Eligibility
- Your project must receive residential electricity from Estes Park Power and Communications, Fort Collins Utilities, Longmont Power & Communications or City of Loveland Utilities. The building must be older than one year and contain no more than four housing units.
- Use a listed Efficiency Works service provider to replace existing equipment with new qualifying equipment. Used equipment and work you install yourself do not qualify. An assessment is not a prerequisite for a stand-alone water-heater replacement.
- You must sign the programme’s post-improvement carbon-monoxide and ventilation disclosure, which is required for every job even when no combustion-safety test is needed.
- Follow local permit, building-code and regulated-waste disposal rules. Before renovation, test for lead; finding it can add requirements for the service provider. Suspected non-rigid asbestos—materials that may release airborne particles when disturbed or exposed to moving air, such as loose-fill vermiculite, pipe insulation or ceiling coatings—can prevent rebate work: proceed only with qualified negative laboratory results, proof of professional remediation, or a plan that will not disturb the affected area.
- Require installers and subcontractors to hold general liability insurance of at least $500,000 per person and $1 million per occurrence for bodily injury, plus $500,000 per occurrence and $1 million in total for property damage. Programme representatives may inspect the installation and request supporting records before payment.
- For two years after the payment request, you must repay a proportionate part of the rebate if Platte River finds that alterations have reduced the project’s energy savings. The amount depends on the savings lost and the original incentive rates. Platte River and its partner utilities may claim environmental credits arising from the project; this does not include your tax credits or tax benefits. The terms also require you to protect and reimburse Platte River and the listed programme parties against claims and costs arising from your participation, the work or the programme assistance.

Contact Efficiency Works Homes at 970-229-5650 or Information@EfficiencyWorks.org to connect with the programme, then arrange the project with a listed service provider. The service provider submits the rebate application; you sign the required documents and supply proof of purchase identifying the purchase date, price and equipment model, plus shipping information where applicable. The invoice must identify Efficiency Works, the measure and rebate amount. For a heat-pump water heater, it must also state the equipment size, manufacturer, model and ENERGY STAR listing.
For preapproval, the provider submits the project proposal and equipment details before work begins. Preapproval may be requested up to 45 days before work starts. Reserved funds last up to 45 days beyond the approved estimated completion date; an extension needs available funds and programme approval. Report changes through the project update form. A change of more than 10% from the original approved rebate requires renewed approval before completion; an increase without an approved update is capped at 110% of the original amount, and larger increases are not guaranteed.
After installation, the provider must submit the application and all required paperwork within 45 days of project completion. For applications made after the work is complete, the installer guide also requires submission within 45 days of your signing the terms. Equipment eligibility is assessed using the final installation or commissioning date. Agree before work begins whether payment goes to you or an authorized recipient, such as the contractor. If the contractor receives it, the rebate must appear as a discount on the final invoice. Payment may depend on a post-project inspection.
