Residential ENERGY STAR refrigerator and freezer rebates
Cooperative members can receive a $50 energy-bill credit for a new ENERGY STAR refrigerator or freezer when they recycle the old working unit.

This entry covers the refrigerator and freezer rebates within Stearns Electric Association’s residential ENERGY STAR appliance programme. Each qualifying refrigerator or freezer earns a $50 credit on your energy bill. The rebate supports replacing and recycling an older working appliance.
Funding is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. The programme can change or be cancelled without notice; members must check funding availability and programme requirements with Stearns Electric.
Eligibility
- You must have a valid Stearns Electric Association account at the installation address. The appliance must be installed within its service territory in Central Minnesota, where it supplies electricity.
- Buy a new refrigerator or freezer on or after January 1, 2026. It must be on the current ENERGY STAR qualifying-product list on its purchase date. ENERGY STAR is the appliance certification you must verify; a retailer’s label alone is insufficient, and products delisted by the purchase date do not qualify. The form directs you to ENERGY STAR to check certification.
- Replace and recycle the old working refrigerator or freezer, and obtain a dated receipt from the recycler. Keep the dated purchase receipt too.

- New appliances must be purchased on or after January 1, 2026. The form and receipts must be received within 90 days of purchase.
Call Stearns Electric Association at (800) 962-0655 to verify programme status, remaining funds and requirements.
Complete and sign the refrigerator/freezer claim form. Mail it with a copy of the original dated sales receipt and a dated recycling receipt to Stearns Electric Association, 29643 Frontage Road, PO Box 816, St. Joseph, MN 56374. Incomplete forms are not processed. The form and receipts must reach the cooperative within 90 days of purchase.
Allow four to six weeks for processing. The rebate is credited to your energy bill.
