Business Efficiency Program custom energy upgrades
Rebates for businesses with commercial electricity accounts in Newfoundland and Labrador to reduce electricity use through tailored equipment upgrades.
Această oportunitate este disponibilă momentan în limba engleză.
Improve your heating and cooling, refrigeration or lighting with a project assessed by TakeCharge. The rebate pays CAD 0.10 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of first-year energy savings, up to CAD 100,000 for that energy-savings rebate.
A limited-time bonus pays CAD 500 per kilowatt (kW) of reduced peak demand—the highest electricity load your equipment draws. The bonus opportunity runs until 31 December 2026, and all measures must be operating by 31 December 2027 to qualify.
TakeCharge fully funds the initial assessment of your commercial facility. A more detailed audit or feasibility study may be required. An audit must use a qualified professional energy auditor; pre-approved support may cover 50% of its cost up to CAD 3,000. A pre-approved feasibility study may receive 75% of eligible costs up to CAD 5,000. These audit and study totals can change with customer size and potential savings. The audit supplies both your business and TakeCharge with a project list, initial economic analysis and potential energy and demand savings.
Eligibility
- Your business must have a commercial electricity account. Contact TakeCharge before starting your project to establish whether it qualifies. The programme serves Newfoundland and Labrador businesses; Hydro customers in isolated systems have a separate programme.
- TakeCharge must approve your proposal, and you must sign and return the project development agreement before starting the upgrade. It sets the deliverables, expected savings, incentives and each party’s obligations.
- After installation, TakeCharge measures and verifies savings before paying the final incentive. Savings below 85% of the proposal estimate reduce the incentive under your agreement. The project must remain in service and save energy for at least five years.
- For a feasibility study, pay at least 25% of the study costs yourself, even if you obtain other funding. The final report must be issued to both your business and TakeCharge. Earlier studies may be accepted at TakeCharge’s discretion, but earlier work is not reimbursed.

Use the Business Contact form on the official Custom Solutions page before starting work. Give your contact details, business name and a brief project description.
TakeCharge first assesses your facility and identifies potential improvements. Complete and return the project proposal form supplied by your contact. Once TakeCharge approves the proposal, sign and return its project development agreement, then carry out the agreed upgrade. Project close-out and verified savings determine the final payment.
If a feasibility study is required, apply for its funding approval first. Include the project description, estimated implementation costs and savings, study costs, the consultant’s qualifications and any further information TakeCharge requests.
