Green credit guarantee
A bank guarantee supporting loans for Swedish exporters and their suppliers investing in greener production or covering short-term operating costs in a green business.
Această oportunitate este disponibilă momentan în limba engleză.
Your bank provides the credit, which your company must repay. The guarantee protects the bank if you fail to pay: EKN can cover up to 80% of the outstanding credit. It can support a loan, an overdraft or a revolving facility, where repaid funds can be borrowed again, for green investments or operations in Sweden.
Investment loans normally run for no more than ten years and must repay principal over time. Overdrafts run for at most twelve months, with extensions subject to an application to EKN. Revolving facilities can run for at most five years, including extensions.
The guarantee carries a premium based on the borrower’s risk and reflecting market price, with a minimum of SEK 1,500 per guarantee.
Eligibility
- Credits above SEK 500 million fall outside this product.
- Your company must be a Swedish exporter or a supplier to an exporting company, and the financed investment or operations must be in Sweden and of significant Swedish interest. Swedish and foreign banks can apply for the guarantee.
- If the credit does not finance a specific export transaction, at least 25% of the borrower’s turnover must come from exports of Swedish goods or services. If you are a supplier, the exporting company must derive at least 25% of its turnover from those exports.
- The investment or activity must qualify as green under the EU Taxonomy’s climate-mitigation criteria. Identify the activity, sector and criteria it meets, explain its climate contribution and assess risks to other environmental objectives. EKN checks this information and may ask for an independent third-party assessment. Credits above SEK 50 million also require an assessment against the Taxonomy’s Do No Significant Harm criteria, which test whether the activity significantly damages other environmental objectives.
- Working-capital finance covers short-term operating costs, including costs incurred before an export order is signed or after the agreement. The exporter’s operations must be exclusively classifiable as green and reduce climate impact. This financing must be separate from longer-term risk capital or equity needed, for example, to establish the company as an exporter. Existing credits cannot be guaranteed; the bank must take on new credit exposure.
- Within a revolving facility, the guarantee only covers underlying revolving loans and ancillary facilities consisting of overdrafts or amortising loans for working capital.
- If you are a supplier, you must answer the other-environmental-impact question yourself, regardless of the credit amount, even when the exporter provides the climate information.
- The borrower’s signed supplement includes undertakings to provide correct information and obtain EKN’s written consent to changes in the credit’s purpose. Incorrect or misleading information, or unauthorised changes, can require the borrower to reimburse EKN for compensation paid to the bank.
How to apply

- Condițiile sesiunii de finanțare
- The bank applies by loan disbursement or signing the overdraft or revolving agreement.
Start with your bank: the bank applies to EKN using the forms on the official guarantee page. Its application must arrive no later than the day a loan is disbursed or an overdraft or revolving agreement is signed. Attach the borrower’s supplement, a credit report no older than six months, the latest annual accounts and the bank’s credit memorandum.
In the supplement, describe the financed activity and its climate effects. If a supplier relies on the exporter’s climate contribution, the exporter supplies signed answers on those effects, Taxonomy classification and the applicable assessment of other environmental objectives. For credit tied to a specific export transaction, complete the additional form on end-users, environmental impacts and social conditions.
EKN assesses the green criteria and credit risk and, if acceptable, provides an offer. To have the guarantee issued, the bank must notify EKN within ten days of loan disbursement or signing the overdraft or revolving agreement.
The bank must also follow the contractual notification and claims deadlines: notify EKN promptly in writing once a payment is more than five calendar days late. Notification must reach EKN within six months of the unpaid payment’s due date to retain cover for that loss; a written compensation claim must arrive within one year of the unpaid instalment’s due date. Read the general conditions and the issued guarantee, which takes precedence if they differ.
