Residential and small business efficiency rebates
Rebates for heat pumps, smart thermostats and insulation at homes and small businesses served by Colorado Springs Utilities.
Această oportunitate este disponibilă momentan în limba engleză.
You can receive a utility-account credit after installing eligible energy-saving equipment. Approved landlords without an active utility account can receive a check if they have a landlord agreement on file. The utility may inspect installations and charge the rebate back to the account if qualifying equipment was not installed.
The retained rebates include:
- ENERGY STAR heat pumps: $1,500. Cold-climate air-source heat pumps: $1,500 below three tons of capacity, or $3,000 at three tons and above. For ductless mini-splits, the rebate counts outdoor units, not indoor units.
- ENERGY STAR electric heat-pump water heaters: $750.
- ENERGY STAR smart thermostats: up to $50, limited to the thermostat cost excluding tax.
- Attic, wall and crawl-space insulation: 40% of the total cost, up to $1,250 for each type of project.
Rebates are awarded in application order while funds remain; buying qualifying equipment does not guarantee approval.
Eligibility
The installation address must receive the Colorado Springs Utilities service required for the rebate. Heat pumps, thermostats and attic, wall or crawl-space insulation require electric and/or gas service; heat-pump water heaters require electric service. These rebates cover upgrades to existing buildings, rather than new construction.
- Buy new equipment. Used, rebuilt, rented, leased, exchanged, prize, buy-one-get-one-free and auction purchases do not qualify. Purchases and installations through utility-funded assistance programmes are excluded.
- Heat pumps and heat-pump water heaters must be installed by a Colorado contractor, or by the owner with an approved Pikes Peak Regional Building Department permit, and pass its final inspection. ENERGY STAR models must have that certification. Cold-climate air-source models must be NEEP certified. Check the model against the eligible cold-climate heat-pump list linked from the utility’s HVAC rebate page before buying.
- An ENERGY STAR heat pump must supply all cooling and part of the heating. A control system must switch it to the furnace at a defined temperature based on the building loads and equipment size; the owner should know that temperature. For cold-climate heat pumps, existing gas heating can remain for extreme conditions if controls prioritise the equipment’s operation.
- For each retained heat-pump, water-heater or thermostat rebate category, the rules allow two rebates per service address every three years.
- Insulation work must be performed by a Colorado contractor; do-it-yourself work does not qualify. R-value measures resistance to heat flow: attic insulation must reach R-49 and include sealing of hidden air passages from the heated space into the attic. Wall cavities require R-13; continuous exterior-wall insulation requires R-5 or more. Attic and exterior-wall insulation totals must meet Department of Energy recommendations. Exterior insulation above the roof deck can be used for cathedral ceilings; air sealing and insulation at exterior non-roof overhangs count as wall projects.
- Attic and wall rebates cover living quarters, excluding garages. Eligible residential customers are homeowners, renters and landlords. The building must be used solely as living quarters, contain no more than four dwelling units, have no more than three above-ground stories, and have no central mechanical system serving multiple units.
- Crawl-space insulation requires R-15 continuous insulation, a Class I vapour barrier, sealing of air leaks to the outdoors through cracks, joints, holes and vents, and insulation of both the foundation wall and rim joist.
