Weatherization rebates

Firelands Electric CooperativeOhiopână la 800 USD

Rebates for Firelands Electric member homeowners insulating or sealing air leaks in existing homes heated primarily with electricity.

Această oportunitate este disponibilă momentan în limba engleză.

You can receive the lower of $800 or 50% of project cost for qualifying insulation, or the lower of $400 or 50% for air sealing. Insulation costs include installation. The calculation uses the total project/application cost, rather than a separate allowance for each area of the home.

Firelands pays the homeowner of record by check.

Eligibility

  • You must be a Firelands Electric member, own the home and be its homeowner of record. The home must receive Firelands electricity and use electricity as its primary heat source. Electric baseboard, electric furnace, geothermal, heat pump and dual-fuel heat pump systems qualify.
  • A licensed contractor must carry out the work in an existing residential home with no more than two units. DIY projects, new construction and additions, garages, sheds, workshops, interior wall insulation, insulating doors and soundproofing are excluded. Air sealing does not cover replacing windows, doors or lighting fixtures. Work must comply with applicable laws and building codes.
  • Eligible insulation covers attics, exterior house walls, ducts, exterior basement walls and crawlspace walls. Contractors must follow ENERGY STAR guidelines. Minimum R-values, which specify insulation’s resistance to heat flow, are R-38 for attics, R-16 for exterior house walls, R-10 for exterior basement and crawlspace walls, and R-6 for ducts. Basement and crawlspace wall insulation also requires a minimum 6-mil polyethylene layer on the floor.
  • For air sealing, the contractor must follow ENERGY STAR guidelines and perform a blower-door test after the work. The result must be below 4,000 CFM50. Duct sealing requires a duct-blast test with a result of no more than 12 CFM25 per 100 square feet. These tests measure air leakage; CFM is airflow in cubic feet per minute, with the stated test pressures of 50 and 25. Basement and crawlspace wall insulation with the polyethylene layer counts as insulation, rather than air sealing.
  • Work funded by an incentive programme from a non-cooperative utility is excluded.
  • Only one application may be paid per home in any 12-month period. The form also sets lifetime limits of two rebated areas and two rebates per home.
