Heat pump water heater rebate
Households and businesses can receive a purchase rebate or instant discount for a new ENERGY STAR certified heat pump water heater installed in Maine.

Choose either the $1,200 instant discount available through October 30, 2026 at participating retailers and distributors, or a $1,150 mail-in rebate when you buy without an instant discount. The incentive cannot exceed the unit’s purchase price, and you cannot combine the two routes.
Eligibility
- Your water heater must be new, installed in Maine and ENERGY STAR certified. Check that the model you buy has this certification; any tank size is eligible.
- You can install it yourself or hire a professional. You do not have to use a Residential Registered Vendor.
- Only one heat pump water heater rebate or instant discount is allowed per installation address per calendar year.
- A business claiming the mail-in rebate must provide a W-9 tax form.
Efficiency Maine can change or terminate the programme without notice. Incomplete information can delay or disqualify a rebate.

For an instant discount, buy through a participating retailer or distributor. At Lowe’s or Home Depot, scan the in-store QR code or use the link shown on the display.
For the mail-in route, complete and sign the rebate claim form. Attach a retailer’s or wholesaler’s receipt or invoice showing purchase date, price and model number; an installer’s receipt does not meet this requirement. Email or postmark the claim within six months of purchase.
Email the form and receipt to info@efficiencymaine.com with the subject “water heater rebate”, or mail them to Efficiency Maine, Heat Pump Water Heater Rebate, P.O. Box 219, Brunswick, ME 04011–0219. Include a W-9 if the rebate is for a business. Submitting the claim allows installation-verification contact and consents to programme-related email or phone communications.
