Variable-speed pump and fan rebates
Rebates help Manitoba commercial and agricultural premises fit efficient pump and fan controls to their heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.

Variable-speed equipment adjusts a pump or fan’s motor speed to match demand, reducing electricity use when full output is unnecessary. The Variable Flow Pump and Fan Systems offer pays after approved equipment is installed and checked.
For a variable-frequency drive paired with an inverter-duty motor—a motor designed to work with this speed-control device—the rebate is CAD 50 per horsepower for fans or CAD 70 for pumps. For variable-speed permanent-magnet motors, the rates are CAD 70 per horsepower for fans and CAD 100 for pumps. Horsepower measures the motor’s rated output; eligible equipment is limited to 100 horsepower.
The total rebate cannot exceed the product and installation costs, including taxes, and may be adjusted to reflect the project’s energy savings.
Eligibility
- You must be a Manitoba Hydro account holder eligible for commercial general-service electricity rates. Agricultural customers billed at residential rates may also be accepted.
- The equipment must serve a commercial or agricultural heating, ventilation or air-conditioning system in a retrofit. It must be installed permanently, rated at no more than 100 horsepower and expected to operate at least 1,600 hours a year.
- Eligible work replaces existing methods of controlling airflow or pumping, such as fan dampers or pump throttling valves. Variable-flow applications qualify, as can constant-flow applications that do not have constant torque. Constant-torque equipment, which needs the same turning force regardless of motor speed, such as positive-displacement pumps, is excluded.
- A variable-frequency drive must be three-phase; single-phase drives are excluded. This refers to the drive’s electrical supply configuration. Have the contractor confirm its three-phase rating in the equipment specifications. The motor must be suitable for inverter operation and rated for the drive. The contractor must verify the programme’s power-quality, electrical protection, filtering and drive-to-motor installation requirements.
- Suppliers must be registered and in good standing with Efficiency Manitoba. The installer must be qualified to install, configure and support the system throughout its warranty.

Have a heating, ventilation and air-conditioning controls contractor assess the system and submit the application through myEM on your behalf. You remain responsible for ensuring the application is correct and received. Efficiency Manitoba may inspect the existing system.
Wait for written approval before ordering equipment or starting work. Install the equipment within one year of approval. The completed electrical installation must meet the Canadian Electrical Code and have the required permit.
Submit itemized invoices and the electrical permit information through myEM after the system is operating. Efficiency Manitoba may inspect, adjusts the final rebate for the verified project and pays you by cheque or deposit.
