Roof greening grant
A grant for property owners and authorized applicants to add voluntary extensive green roofs to existing buildings in Radevormwald.
Beskrivningen av den här finansieringen finns för närvarande på engelska.
Add a planted roof with a shallow growing layer to help reduce local summer heat and slow rainwater runoff. Eligible costs cover the vegetation-layer materials, mainly native plants and sowing, and the gravel edge. You may hire a contractor or do the work yourself; DIY support covers only installed materials.
The city pays €50 per m² of net vegetation area, limited to 50% of recognized eligible costs and €2,500 per property. Recoverable VAT is excluded. Payment follows completion and the city’s confirmation of satisfactory work, using actual costs.
Maintain and care for the roof for ten years from grant approval. The city may inspect it. Removing it early, or proven construction or maintenance defects making it nonfunctional, requires proportional repayment: 90% in the first year, declining to 10% in the ninth. Unlawfully obtained grants must also be repaid.
Eligibility
- Apply as the property or building owner, holder of heritable building rights, or an authorized representative. An owners’ association must provide its owners’ resolution.
- The roof must be in Radevormwald. The contiguous green area must be at least 10 m², with at least 5 cm of substrate, the growing medium for the plants. New buildings within one year after building acceptance are excluded.
- The work must be voluntary. Greening required by law, a building permit or a development plan is excluded, as are technical systems unrelated to roof greening.
- Do not order, start or complete the work before approval. Ordering an eligible service counts as starting.
- Other programmes cannot fund the same measure before or during the ten-year maintenance period. The form requires you to declare that the measure receives no other public funds.
- You are responsible for the roof’s suitability, including structural load capacity and watertightness, proper execution and any necessary permissions. Grant approval does not replace them.

- Villkor för ansökningsomgången
- Applications are accepted for 2026 while funds remain.
- Complete the work and submit payment evidence within six months of award receipt and no later than 31 December 2026; an extension of up to two months cannot pass year-end.
Use the municipal application form linked on the programme page and submit it in writing to Stadt Radevormwald, Gebäudemanagement. Email is an accepted receipt route; the current contact is Niklas Lajewski at niklas.lajewski@radevormwald.de, telephone 02195 606432.
Include two comparable quotes, or a material-cost estimate for DIY work; a measured site plan and scale sketch; proof of legal permissibility or the building permit; a photo; and technical details of the roof layers, edging and drainage. Include the privacy form and, where applicable, an owners’ resolution and owner authorization. An application still incomplete three months after submission is returned without processing.
Wait for the award before ordering. Applications are considered in receipt order within the available budget, with no entitlement; if eligible applications received on the same day exceed available funds, a lottery decides. The city invites new applications in 2026.
Complete the work and submit the payment request, invoice, payment proof and clear photographs within six months after receiving the award, and no later than 31 December 2026. A reasoned written request may extend the award by two months, but never beyond year-end. Payment follows the city’s quality confirmation. You must allow checks of compliance and relevant documents.
