Private rainwater cistern grant
Private applicants can receive up to 80% of eligible costs, capped at €1,000, for a new garden-watering cistern in participating municipalities in seven Styrian districts.
Beskrivningen av den här finansieringen finns för närvarande på engelska.
Install a rainwater storage tank for watering your private garden and reducing peaks in demand for drinking water. The grant covers eligible tank, material and installation costs, supported by company invoices and proof of payment. It excludes conversions of existing systems, pumps, distribution pipes and your own labour.
The support is up to 80% of eligible costs and at most €1,000 for one cistern per applicant. Land Steiermark assesses the application, and an award becomes binding through a grant contract. Funding depends on the available municipal allocation; there is no legal entitlement. The final amount is assessed against actual investment costs.
Payment follows signing the grant contract and is made through the municipality or directly to you by the end of the relevant year. If you fail to meet the funding conditions, you must repay some or all of the grant immediately when requested.
Eligibility
- You must be a private applicant, applying through a municipality that participates in the regional programme.
- The new cistern must hold at least 5 m³ (5,000 litres) and be in Deutschlandsberg, Graz-Umgebung, Hartberg-Fürstenfeld, Leibnitz, Südoststeiermark, Voitsberg or Weiz. It must serve private garden watering.
- Apply after installation, in the same year or the following year. The 2026 route can therefore cover new cisterns installed in 2026 or 2025. The general requirement to apply before starting work does not apply to this private-cistern route.
- Only one cistern per applicant is supported. Keep company invoices and payment proofs for the tank, materials and installation.

- Verified applicant deadline for Feistritztal only: apply at the municipal Bauamt by 16 October 2026. Other participating municipalities have their own submission arrangements.[^c11][^c3]
- New cisterns installed in 2026 or 2025 can be considered. Funding depends on the municipal allocation.[^c3][^c10]
- The end-of-October deadline concerns municipality-to-Land collective submissions, not household applications in Feistritztal.[^c10][^c11]
Apply through your participating municipality after the cistern is installed. Supply your name, address, date of birth and bank details, together with invoices and proof of payment. The municipality confirms correct construction, storage volume and the invoiced amount, then submits the funding data to Land Steiermark.
For Feistritztal, submit to the municipal building office (Bauamt) by 16 October 2026. The municipal office is at Hirnsdorf 252, 8221 Feistritztal; contact gde@feistritztal.gv.at or +43 3113 8866. This is the verified local applicant deadline; other participating municipalities set their own submission arrangements.
The municipality must send its collective submission to the Land by the end of October. That later administrative deadline does not extend Feistritztal’s applicant deadline.
