Water and greenery grant
Residents and property owners in Doetinchem can receive €15/m², up to €500, for replacing paving with greenery.

The Water en groen subsidy helps make outdoor space more resilient to water and heat problems. This entry covers replacing tiles or other paving with plants or grass. For this measure, you receive €15 for each square metre converted, up to €500, paid to your bank account after Buha confirms compliant completion.
Eligibility
- You must be a resident of Doetinchem or own property in the municipality.
- The plot must lie inside the municipality’s built-up settlement boundaries. Check the official boundary map: eligible plots lie in the green areas.
- Replace at least 5 m² of paving with real greenery, such as shrubs, hedges, perennial plants or grass. The areas do not have to adjoin each other. Artificial grass and grass-concrete tiles are excluded.
- Apply for work you have yet to carry out. You cannot claim retrospectively and must wait for Buha’s approval before starting.
- You can apply for this paving-replacement measure only once.
- If you rent from Sité, you do not need its permission for this measure. If you rent from another landlord, you are responsible for asking that landlord’s permission.

- Apply before carrying out the work and wait for Buha’s approval.
Apply through the digital paving-to-greenery form. Attach a drawing showing your garden’s dimensions, where you will remove paving and the dimensions of the new green areas.
The municipality sends an acknowledgement and forwards your application to Buha for assessment. Wait for Buha’s approval before carrying out the work. Keep a photo of the area before removing the paving, then send Buha the before and after photos once the work is finished.
Submit the invoice to Buha within six months of the grant award decision. After compliant completion, Buha pays the agreed amount into your bank account.
