Decarbonization project grants

Greater Montreal Climate FundKanadaupp till 50 tn CADstängd

Grants of up to CAD 50,000 help community and public organizations deploy or scale projects that measurably cut emissions in Greater Montreal.

Beskrivningen av den här finansieringen finns för närvarande på engelska.

The Greater Montreal Climate Fund supports solutions that can be expanded or repeated elsewhere: low-carbon buildings and infrastructure, sustainable mobility and urban logistics, energy systems, and the circular economy. Projects must deliver direct or projected greenhouse-gas reductions using a credible calculation method.

The grant covers up to 80% of total project costs, with a maximum of CAD 50,000. At least 20% must come from non-federal matching funds or verifiable in-kind contributions, such as staff time. Separately, the project must have financial support or a commitment from at least one other partner; using your own contribution does not remove that requirement.

Verifiable expenses directly linked to the project can include professional services, equipment, project staff, implementation training, communications and necessary travel. Administration costs cannot exceed 15% of the grant. Fundraising, application preparation, non-recoverable taxes, interest or financing costs, unrelated operating expenses and costs incurred before signing the grant agreement are excluded.

You receive 80% when the agreement is signed and 20% after the project report is received. Submit a short results report and project budget statement within one month after the project ends.

Eligibility

  • Eligible lead organizations are municipalities and municipal organizations, Indigenous communities or organizations, nonprofits, charities, cooperatives, associations and universities.
  • Private for-profit organizations, financial institutions, educational institutions other than the expressly eligible universities, healthcare institutions, Crown corporations and corporations under government authority cannot receive a grant directly, but may be project partners. Political parties and organizations using funds for federal or provincial partisan activities or political lobbying are excluded.
  • The funded work must take place in the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) territory, including Kanehsatà:ke and Kahnawà:ke. A wider project can apply for only its CMM portion. A specific phase of a project already underway can qualify; there is no maximum project duration.
  • Show credible measurable emissions reductions, potential to expand or replicate the solution, and financial support or a commitment from another partner. A preliminary emissions estimate should identify the targeted sources and calculation method; evidence from comparable projects can be used.
  • Conferences, forums or training initiatives; exclusively academic or research projects; development of action plans or methodologies; and redistribution of grants or rebates are excluded. Projects solely acquiring or financing capital assets or infrastructure, or solely paying operating costs for infrastructure, vehicle charging or public transport, are also excluded. Building renovations, new construction and technology installations must be scalable or replicable.

Selection considers emissions reductions, long-term impact and partner involvement, replication and accessible project results, the team's expertise and resources, a realistic budget and timeline, and community benefits including equity, inclusion and reconciliation. Local community involvement is also considered.
