Insulation and air sealing rebate
Rebates for insulating or air sealing older residential and commercial properties heated with Cedar Falls Utilities electricity or natural gas.

You can receive a utility bill credit or mailed check for eligible insulation and air sealing. Insulation rebates equal the added R-value multiplied by the net insulated area in square feet and the rate below. R-value measures insulation's resistance to heat flow; the added R-value is the final value minus the initial value. The payment is the smaller of this calculation and 60% of the project cost. That cost includes equipment and labor necessary for installation.

These are the eligible insulation options; batts are excluded.
For air sealing, CFU tests the building's air leakage with a blower door before and after the work. A measured improvement of at least 20% earns $200; 10%–19% earns $150; 9% or less earns no rebate. The overall rebate still cannot exceed 60% of total equipment and labor costs.
Eligibility
- Both residential and commercial properties qualify, but properties built after 2013 are excluded. You must be a CFU customer for the primary energy source saved by the project, and CFU must supply the natural gas or electricity used for heating.
- The work must serve habitable, conditioned spaces. Residential garages and seasonal rooms are excluded. Insulation work must be carried out by an Iowa licensed insulation contractor.
- CFU must conduct a preapproval evaluation before work starts. For air sealing, CFU must also conduct blower-door tests before and after the project.
- Work must comply with applicable federal, state and local codes, standards and regulatory requirements. Any equipment must be new, rather than used or rebuilt; existing equipment must be removed and cannot be resold.
- Required inspections must pass before payment. CFU may inspect, test or meter the installation, or ask for a customer survey, to verify savings for up to 12 months after installation, at no cost to you.

Call CFU at 319-266-1761 to arrange the evaluation before starting work, and the required testing if you plan air sealing.
Complete the project during 2026. Send the completed 2026 application, final itemized invoice/proof of purchase and CFU Energy Services preapproval document to energyservices@cfunet.net or 1 Utility Parkway, PO Box 769, Cedar Falls, IA 50613. Submit your application by January 31, 2027. Incomplete applications may be delayed or rejected; approved rebate review and funding takes two to eight weeks.
Rebates are first come, first served. CFU can change or end the program without notice, and preapproval or a completed application does not guarantee payment. CFU applies the rules on the application form posted on its website on the day it receives your application.
The rebate normally credits your utility account; the form also allows you to request a mailed check. CFU may publicize your participation unless you object in writing, and application information may be shared with state agencies or departments.
