Replace car trips with a cargo bike or a bicycle cargo trailer. This route within KlimaIMPULS pays a one-time grant of 30% of the purchase price including VAT: up to €500 per electric cargo bike, €300 per muscle-powered cargo bike or €100 per cargo trailer.
Across KlimaIMPULS, each household can receive at most €1,000 per year. Any programme funding above that total must be repaid. The city transfers the grant to your stated bank account after checking the complete documents and eligibility.
Eligibility
- You must be an individual living in Schwetzingen.
- Buy new, factory-equipped equipment. Cargo bikes must have a payload capacity of at least 40 kg; electric cargo bikes must have a maximum speed of 45 km/h. Bicycle or pedelec cargo trailers must have a payload capacity of at least 30 kg. Used equipment, ordinary bikes converted into cargo bikes and self-built trailers are excluded.
- For an electric cargo bike, provide proof that you obtain CO₂-neutral electricity from renewable sources, for example your own solar panels or a green electricity contract.
- Use the bike or trailer for at least twelve months without permanently transferring it to someone else or reselling it.
- Orders, purchases or projects begun before 1 June 2025 are ineligible.
The city may inspect the measure on site, and you must provide information to the city or its representatives. It may reclaim paid grants if conditions are not met or information proves incorrect. Applying also means agreeing to contact and short evaluation surveys from the climate office.
The relevant component ceases to apply if federal, state or district funding for it is introduced; the municipal council decides on any replacement rules.

- The city must receive your claim within three months after purchase. Complete applications are considered in receipt order while funds remain.
After buying the bike or trailer, download the Lastenrad & Lastenanhänger application form from the city’s programme page. The city must receive your application within three months of the purchase date.
Attach proof of the payload, the purchase contract and/or invoice, and payment. For an electric cargo bike, also attach the renewable electricity evidence. Send a scan of the completed, signed form to klimaschutz@schwetzingen.de, or post it to Stadt Schwetzingen, Amt für Stadtentwicklung, Büro für Klimaschutz, Energie und Umwelt, Hebelstraße 1, 68723 Schwetzingen.
Complete applications are handled in receipt order. Incomplete applications are neither processed nor given a funding reservation until complete; supply missing documents within ten working days of notification. Applications are currently accepted under the continued 2025 rules in 2026, subject to remaining funds. There is no entitlement to approval.
