Home insulation and air-sealing rebate
Rebates help electricity members improve insulation and seal air leaks in older homes with electric heating or central air conditioning.
Denne finansieringsmulighed er i øjeblikket beskrevet på engelsk.
The Residential Weatherization Program helps you improve insulation and reduce air leaks in an existing home. For qualifying electric-heated homes, MVEC pays 60% of eligible costs, up to $600 each for attic/ceiling, wall and foundation insulation, and $200 each for air-sealing measures and duct insulation/sealing. The maximum is $2,200 per home over the life of the programme.
If your home qualifies only through central air conditioning, the rebate is 15% of eligible costs, up to $150 each for attic/ceiling and wall insulation, with a $300 programme maximum per home. Foundation insulation, air sealing and duct work are unavailable under this tier.
Contractor-installed work can include materials and labour. If you install it yourself, your own labour cannot count. If you generate electricity at home, the rebate is reduced in proportion to the share of your power supplied by the cooperative. Rebates totalling $100 or less are credited to your energy bill.
Eligibility
- You must be an electricity member and install the improvements at a location served by Maquoketa Valley Electric Cooperative. You certify that you purchased and installed the claimed measures and met the programme rules.
- The residential home must have been built before 2000. New additions are excluded, and the total project cost must be at least $150.
- For the electric-heat tier, the electric system must heat 75% of the home and operate before any non-electric backup. Portable space heaters do not qualify as the primary system; air conditioning is not required. For the central-AC-only tier, central air conditioning must cool the entire home except the basement, and the heating must not qualify for the electric-heat tier. Equipment is subject to inspection and minimum electrical-use requirements.
- Insulation must start below the form's pre-existing limits and meet its installed requirements. R-value measures insulation's resistance to heat flow. Attic/ceiling insulation must start below R-20 and reach at least R-38; walls must start below R-13, reach at least R-13 and add at least R-5; foundation insulation must start below R-8, reach at least R-5 and add at least R-5. Duct insulation must start below R-3 and reach at least R-8. The form provides thickness-based R-value calculations if existing values are unknown.
- Air-sealing measures include house wraps, vapour barriers, permanent weatherstripping, caulking and foam sealing. Temporary strip caulking and plastic window covers do not qualify.
- Duct work requires professional installation and ducts in an unconditioned space, such as an attic or crawlspace. Work where both ducts and heating system are in the basement is excluded. Duct sealing requires mastic sealant; duct tape does not qualify.
