Business customer rebates

City of Palo Alto UtilitiesCalifornienop til 100 t USD

Custom rebates for commercial, industrial and public-sector utility customers replacing natural gas equipment with electricity in existing Palo Alto facilities.

Denne finansieringsmulighed er i øjeblikket beskrevet på engelsk.

The custom electrification route covers projects that do not qualify for standard electrification rebates, including heat pump pool heaters, heat recovery chillers and electrification of industrial processes. Replacing natural gas equipment with electricity reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

The rebate is $0.30 per kilowatt-hour-equivalent of annual net energy saved. Calculate this by converting the old equipment’s annual gas use at 29.3 kWh per therm, adding its electricity use, then subtracting the proposed electric equipment’s annual electricity use. Payment is limited to the lower of 50% of project cost and $100,000. CPAU verifies savings and may adjust payment after inspections or performance measurements.

Eligibility

  • You must be a non-residential City of Palo Alto Utilities (CPAU) customer on a commercial electric and/or gas rate. The project must be in CPAU’s service territory and concern an existing facility; new construction is excluded.
  • The custom electrification project must fully eliminate natural gas use and cannot rely on changes in behaviour or operation alone. You cannot combine electrification and energy-efficiency rebates.
  • A California-licensed professional engineer in the relevant discipline must prepare and stamp the savings calculations. Include a plan for measuring and verifying savings that CPAU approves. Rebatable savings cannot exceed the energy CPAU actually supplies; other suppliers and on-site generation do not count.
  • Obtain CPAU’s written Notice of Approval before buying equipment or starting the project. Purchase and install within 180 days of approval; written extensions may be granted case by case. Changes to the approval require written CPAU approval.
  • Follow applicable laws, building codes, manufacturer specifications and permit requirements. Any contractor you use must hold the appropriate licence. Tenants need the property owner’s permission.
  • Agree to the programme terms, including responsibility for any tax on the rebate and protecting the City against damage, loss or liability arising from your project or programme participation.

How to apply

Løbende ansøgning
Vilkår for ansøgningsrunden
  • Applications accepted first come, first served until allocated funds are spent; funding may change without notice.

Prepare the engineer-stamped energy savings report and measurement plan, then submit the online rebate application through the official programme page’s “Apply for Rebates Now” link. For application assistance, contact CPAU at UtilityPrograms@paloalto.gov or (650) 329-2241.

CPAU arranges a pre-installation inspection and emails the Notice of Approval. Wait for that notice before ordering or purchasing equipment. Obtain the required permits before installation, complete the work within 180 days, and upload invoices, permits and supporting documents through the approval email’s link. Give CPAU access for the post-installation inspection and any required performance measurements. Following approval of the completed project, the rebate cheque is issued within 2–4 weeks.

Applications are accepted first come, first served until allocated funds are spent. Funding is subject to availability and can change without notice; CPAU can limit the number of products rebated.
