Match funding of up to £10,000 for not-for-profit groups delivering community-supported climate projects benefiting people in Suffolk.

Αυτή η ευκαιρία είναι προς το παρόν διαθέσιμη στα Αγγλικά.

The fund supports projects such as walking and cycling, using sustainable or recycled materials, climate workshops and improvements to community buildings. Projects must make a measurable contribution to the Suffolk Climate Emergency Plan.

The grant covers up to 50% of project costs, to a maximum of £10,000. By full application, you must have secured at least half the project funding from at least two sources outside your organisation. Only funds raised specifically for the project count. Volunteer delivery time can count at £20 an hour. Grants from other funders are matched at 50% of their value or £5,000, whichever is lower; for example, a £1,000 external grant attracts £500 in match funding.

Eligibility

You can apply as a not-for-profit community or voluntary group with a written constitution (the rules governing your group), a Community Interest Company, a charity registered with the Charity Commission, a voluntary organisation or social enterprise, a local branch of a national voluntary-sector organisation, a town or parish council, a village hall or recreation ground committee, or another not-for-profit organisation whose primary aim is improving people’s lives in Suffolk. Individuals cannot apply.

  • Your project must benefit people living in Suffolk and involve the wider community beyond your organisation. Groups with more than £65,000 in reserves available for general use, rather than restricted to a specific purpose (unrestricted reserves), are excluded. Private sports or social clubs without a benefit for non-members are also excluded.
  • For solar panels, heat pumps, insulation or other energy-saving measures on a community building, Groundwork East must audit the existing building before full application. The fund arranges and pays for this audit. You must also commit to a climate-change community engagement event or project.
  • Supply your constitution and bank details. If a small group has no bank account, its local town or parish council can agree to hold the funds; payment directly to individuals is not supported.
  • Costs or activities incurred before full application and retrospective funding are excluded. Recoverable VAT is ineligible. The fund does not cover your organisation’s running costs, replacement of statutory obligations or public funding, promotion of religious or political causes, endowments, deficits, loans, sponsored or fundraising events, medical research or equipment for statutory or private healthcare, overseas expeditions or travel, trips abroad, hospitality to other organisations, or loss of income or profits.

The council’s fund information gives Jess.Miller@suffolk.gov.uk as the contact to learn more about the scheme, and david.walton@suffolk.gov.uk for developing a project idea.

The documented process starts with an Expression of Interest through the Green Suffolk website. If eligible, you receive an Intent to Fund letter reserving funds for 12 months. Once the required two matching sources are secured, submit the full application. The Suffolk Climate Change Partnership helps refine it, and its panel decides whether to award a grant; eligibility does not guarantee funding. Return the Grant Acceptance Form to release payment via Suffolk County Council, normally within one month of receipt.

Start within 12 months of the Intent to Fund letter and within two months of receiving grant funds. Projects unable to start within 12 months of the grant award are excluded. Spend the award within 12 months of award unless an extension is agreed in advance. Use funds only for approved purposes; misuse can lead to recovery of part or all of the grant. Return underspend within 30 days of being asked.

Complete the monitoring report within one month of the project ending. Keep project photographs, emissions-saving information, receipts and invoices, media coverage and social posts, community-engagement numbers where relevant, and participant or stakeholder feedback for reporting. Publicity must acknowledge the Suffolk Climate Action Community Match Fund and Suffolk’s public sector organisations, and link to the fund and Suffolk Climate Emergency Plan at www.greensuffolk.org.
