Rainwater consultation and garden-cistern grant
Property owners and other qualifying rights holders in Eschborn or Niederhöchstadt can get grants for rainwater advice and cisterns that collect roof runoff for garden watering.
Start with advice from a qualified, independent specialist office. The city reimburses consultation costs up to €1,000. You can then apply for recommended improvements; this entry covers garden-watering cisterns.
The cistern grant covers up to 50% of eligible costs: materials and delivery, plus labour when a specialist firm does the work. The garden-use caps are €700 for 4,000 litres, €900 for 5,000, €1,100 for 6,000, €1,300 for 7,000, €1,500 for 8,000, €1,700 for 9,000 and €1,900 for 10,000 litres.
Eligibility
- You must own, or hold another property right (a right in rem) over, a property in Eschborn or Niederhöchstadt. Eligible applicants are private individuals, condominium owners’ communities represented by their property manager, and charitable associations. There is no income ceiling.
- A system can receive funding only once. Work must follow recognised technical practice, cause no harm to people or the environment, and respect heritage, townscape and water-law requirements. Obtain and maintain the relevant permits and technical compliance.
- Do not award contracts or start before grant approval; planning work is excepted. An early start needs explicit permission after filing your application. Complete the work promptly and within 12 months of approval; extensions need approval.
- Grants depend on the municipal budget and are not a legal entitlement. Complete applications are considered in arrival order.
How to apply
- Status
- Open continuously
- Round restrictions
- Applications remain possible while municipal funds are available.
Use the city’s online rainwater-management application. It goes to Dezernat II – Stabsstelle Klimaschutz und Energiemanagement; the Magistrat decides the award without an application fee. New rainwater applications remain possible.
Read the rainwater funding guidelines and their additional application/measure information. Apply before work. The application should include all planned measures for a building from the consultation report. Attach a site plan, technical drawing, functional description, rainwater calculation and cost estimate. A further application for the same building normally must wait until the previous one is completed and paid; advice-only applications are exempt. If documents remain incomplete when revised rules take effect, submit a new application under those rules.
After completion, claim payment with the payment form supplied with approval and a copy of the original invoice; produce the original if requested. The city and district audit service can check use of the grant, and city-appointed third parties must be allowed an on-site inspection. Incorrect information can lead to withdrawal of the award and repayment of amounts already paid.
